Carlin head to Turkey for GP3

04 May 2011

Carlin’s GP3 team arrived in Turkey this weekend, for the opening round of the 2011 season. Conor Daly and Tom Dillmann, who have both completed several test days with Carlin will be joined by Leonardo Cordeiro , who impressed the team at the last pre-season test in Barcelona last month.

Cordeiro, who was 2009 South American F3 champion, already has one year of GP3 experience under his belt having competed in the inaugural season last year. The Brazilian is a welcome addition to Carlin and is the last driver to be confirmed in the team’s line-up for the 2011 season.

Daly and Dillmann, both reining champions in Star Mazda Series and German F3 respectively, have both completed a full programme of pre-season testing with Carlin in preparation for the 2011 season.

Daly, who is dovetailing his racing in GP3 with a programme in the Indy Lights Series in America, is already a race winner this year having won in Long Beach last month. The young American now turns his attention to GP3, in what will be his first race in Europe this weekend.

“I’m extremely excited to get the season underway” said Daly. “Luckily I’m already in race mode, as I’ve been racing in America already this season. But I’m eager to get my European career underway this weekend.

“The track looks incredible and I can’t wait for the first test session so I can get my first taste of it. It looks as though it could be wet this weekend, but wet or dry, I don’t mind. Either way I know its going to be a really interesting weekend. I just want to focus on getting the most out of the car as possible, to continue building a good relationship with the team and looking for a good result. It will be a tough weekend, but that’s what we expected and I’m ready for the challenge.”
