Ain Draham: View from our suite

Ain Draham is a lovely mountain town in the Northwest of Tunisia. It is a small town located within the Kroumirie Mountains whose environment is reminiscent of Lebanon, Portugal and the south of France. When one thinks of Tunisia, one usually does not imagine that verdant cork and pine forests could exist within the North African country. Ain Draham surely dispels the myth that Tunisia is a country made up of camels, sand dunes and beaches.

When visiting Ain Draham, there are a few hotels located within the small city. One that does not advertise (and is not found in most guidebooks) is the Hotel Panorama. This place is absolutely a hidden gem. It is located on Avenue Habib Bourguiba in a central part of town, and most locals will know it for its restaurant and pizzeria, which always seems to be open. The small hotel, however, is the best kept secret in town. Therefore, Tunisia Live recommends the Hotel Residence Panorama, and quite strongly.

The living room is a comfortable place for a journalist to relax.

The staff is almost as charming as the hotel itself. The hotel is the project of two brothers, one of whom emigrated from Ain Draham to France and manages a four-star hotel in Toulouse. He returned to open the hotel in his hometown, and he and his brother do all the repairs themselves. He speaks fluent English as well. The staff at reception is also super friendly and able to give advice and answer all of your questions.

The building for the hotel is rather unassuming. It is, however, clean and functional. What makes the Panorama great are the rooms. There are two types of rooms in the Panorama – studios and suites. Both are priced for one to two persons per room. The studios are exceptional hotel rooms – comfortable beds, clean and new bathrooms and a balcony in each room. The suites, however, are where the Panorama shines.

The bathroom was spotless.

The suites are more akin to a fully furnished two-bedroom apartment than a typical hotel suite. There is a kitchen, bathroom, living room, balcony, loft bedroom and private bedroom. Both bedrooms are found upstairs. Everything is functional and spotless in the rooms. The new shower in the bathroom was a highlight. The living room was complete with two couches, satellite television and a dining set. The balcony was connected to the living room and offered spectacular views of the town. The decoration of the entire downstairs is tastefully done as well.

Loft bedroom

Upstairs, one finds the first bedroom which is located in the loft. It is a king-size bed with enough quilts and blankets on it to survive a chilly Ain Draham winter night. The sheets were clean and the bed soft and comfortable. The second bedroom was the same, but with different sheets and a walk in closet. The entire upstairs is air-conditioned and has heating units as well.

The only problem with the room was the bathroom window wouldn’t open. With the amount of work that the brothers put into repairing the place, it is certain that it will be taken care of quickly.

The rate for the suite for two people is 56 Dinars per night. This makes it an absolute steal. It will indeed be difficult to find better quality for the price in Tunisia than at the Panorama. Rooms are available nightly, weekly, and monthly.
