How I was brought up by bongo playing wolves and all that.

At around 15,a very determined Jim McDermott was at school trying his best to fail at everything,it was his dream come true when finally he suceeded!

He had however been given a pair of drumsticks by brother Kevin and was soon battering the hell out of telephone directories, then moved up market to tupperware, the Russian-doll type where they all fit inside each other, this made for good tom-toms.So when the time came to try and get a job it was by chance Jim was asked to play some drums on a new BBC rock n roll spoof series called Tutti-Frutti,this also featured some young hopeful actors Emma Thompson and Robbie Coltrane.

This proved to be the gateway to Jim playing drums constantly with some of Glasgow's finest talent, and musicians too!

So when it came to pass when brother Kevin was forming The Kevin McDermott Orchestra, the foundations were laid and the group signed with the Island records label in 1989.the band toured the US and Europe for over 4 years,on stadium support tours with Rod Stewart,Sting and Simple Minds, including a prestigious gig at Wembley stadium.

Since then Jim has been on the UK and european session circuit, playing with Simple Minds,Deacon Blue,The Silencers and enjoyed top ten hits with Gun.

He is currently a Zildjian cymbals artist, setup can be found at links section under Zildjian.

Jim is now house drummer at Jools Hollands' club,The Jamhouse Edinburgh.See links.

His next venture is a US tour with Justin Currie of Del Amitri on his first solo outing, and lots of other "stuff" that I'll keep updated if they happen.
