Everything Matters

Friday October 14, 2011

eternal perspectiveDo angels write down records of what we human beings think, say, and do? Some people believe that angels do just that. The new article "How Do Angels Write" looks at various ways angels may use writing to communicate, including keeping written records about people's lives.

If angels do record our attitudes and actions, then it seems to me that what we choose to think, say, and do has eternal value. Why else would it be significant enough for angels to write down?

Remembering that helps me see that every decision I make matters from God's perspective. That's a sobering thought, but it doesn't strike fear in my heart because I believe that God loves, forgives, and empowers me to grow -- even when I make mistakes.

God often sends angels on missions of love, as well. So don't let the thought of angels recording your choices cause fear to creep up on you. Instead, let it motivate you to make the best decisions you can, simply because you want to return that great love to God and his angels.

And if you're having one of those days where it seems like everything that can go wrong is going wrong, I hope the new article "Murphy's Law Miracles" will encourage you.

Everything we go through, and every way we choose to respond to it, matters!

When Angels Speak

Tuesday October 11, 2011

quotesHow do angels speak? I hope you'll read the new article about that this week.

While hiking in the Grand Canyon about 20 years ago, I encountered a man who I believe was an angel in human form, and I heard him speak to me. He didn't say much -- just four short words: "You can do it!" -- when I desperately needed encouragement and strength.

But his voice resonated more deeply and richly than any human voice I'd heard before, and the words he spoke had a powerful impact on me. After encountering him, I found that I had the power I needed to make it safely out of the canyon before dark.

When angels speak, something wonderful is bound to happen!

Have you ever encountered an angel who spoke to you? If so, what did the angel say? Share your story in our forum, or email me at: angels.guide@about.com to share your story on our site!

Who is Under Your Wings?

Friday October 7, 2011

angel wingAngels and wings often go together like cake and ice cream in popular culture. It's rare to see a calendar photo, figurine, poster, or statue of an angel that doesn't have wings. But do angels really have wings? The new article "Angels: Wings and Things" takes on that question, as well as the issue of why angels sometimes appear with wings.

Angel wings may serve as symbols of God's care for people. Psalm 91:4 of the Torah and the Bible says about God: "He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart." God often sends angels on missions to take care of people, from guarding us to praying for us.

Just the sight of angels' wonderful wings inspires us by reminding us of the loving care God gives us through angels. We can take comfort in the knowledge that angels are watching over us. But we can go beyond just accepting the love they offer us. We can pass that love along to others who need some extra care.

We humans don't have wings, but we can care for others just as much as angels do. Although we can't spread wings out over people in need, we can reach out our hands to them or embrace them with our arms.

So think about the people who may need to take shelter for a while underneath your "wings." If you're a parent, your children definitely need to spend time under your wings. If you're a leader in your workplace, you likely know of at least several people who could learn from you within a mentoring relationship. If you live near a single parent or an elderly person, you can enrich their lives by welcoming them under your "wings."

Who is God calling you to spread your "wings" out toward today?

Close to You

Tuesday October 4, 2011

angel tattooAngel tattoos are quite popular, thanks in part to celebrities who sport depictions of angels as body art. But the practice of tattooing is a controversial one. Check out our new article about angel tattoos, and the different perspectives that world religions have on tattoos.

Perhaps the most popular type of angel tattoo is some kind of guardian angel design. Those who believe in guardian angels know that their angels are always close to them, yet remain invisible so they don't interfere with the natural course of human life. Guardian angels appear only when doing so is crucial to fulfilling a mission that God has given them. Tattoos give people visible reminders of their guardian angels, just as figurines and statues of angels do.

But tattoos, especially, illustrate just how close guardian angels are to people. By tattooing their own bodies with images of angels, people are making those images a part of themselves.

Tattoos are also intended to be permanent, and are difficult to remove. If you get a tattoo, that tattoo will likely be with you for the rest of your life -- just as your guardian angel will be with you throughout your lifetime.

I don't have tattoos myself and don't ever plan on getting any. But I enjoy looking at the tattoos that other people wear. Among all the possible designs to choose from, angels seem to be a great choice, because they proclaim faith. Every time I see someone wearing a guardian angel tattoo, I'm reminded that angels are always close by, even though they're usually out of sight.

Do you think the practice of tattooing defaces the body God has made, or helps people express their faith? Do you personally have any tattoos? If so, what designs are they, and why did you choose those designs? Visit our forum or Twitter to discuss this!
