Nordic Trophy 2009 becomes a Swedish affair
The pre-season tournament Nordic Trophy will become a Swedish affair now when the six finish clubs, IFK Helsingfors, TBS Åbo, Kärpät, Rauma Lukko, Jokerit and Tappara have all withdrawn their participation effecting immediately.
- We are surprised over their decision, but we will still carry on with the tournament with Swedish teams only during the season, says Bo Lennartsson, tournament director at Nordic Trophy.
After four seasons the Nordic pre-season tournament is now all Swedish when the Finnish teams withdrew surprisingly on Tuesday.
- As of now we have no formal decision from the Finnish teams. We need to sit down and discuss this new situation to find out the background and their future in the tournament, says “Kulon” Lennartsson.
- We will carry out this year´s tournament with Swedish teams only, and we are certain game-day promotions and games will continue to be of the highest quality, adds Lennartsson.
The six Swedish teams, Djurgården, Frölunda Indians, Färjestad, HV 71, Linköping and Malmö are now working together to quickly make up a new schedule.
- Our goal is to have the new schedule complete this week. Furthermore, our ambition is to continue working with our local hosts to carry out the games in the new schedule, says Lennartsson.
