Getting Started

Welcome! If you have any questions DocForge staff and members are here to help. Here we hope to answer any of your basic questions.

Browsing

A few sections of the site are starting points for browsing DocForge:

  • The Main Page will point to most high-level starting points, as well as highlighted articles.
  • The right sidebar throughout the site contains a Browse and Meta set of links. The first will bring you to other pages through which you can dig deeper into a topic. The Meta links will inform you more about DocForge itself.
  • Most pages on the site are categorized. Special:Categories will show you a complete list of all content categories.
  • The Search box in the right sidebar will bring you directly to any page or show you pages which contain specific content. See DocForge:Searching for details.

Adding Pages

By following a link to a page which doesn't already exist, you have the ability to create that page. Every page starts with a completely blank slate. As soon as you save any content the new page is created and available for all to see.

For organization and formatting examples, see any of the articles highlighted on the home page. You'll notice some pages have sub-pages, like PHP/switch. By using a forward slash ("/") in a page link, a sub-page of the topic is created. Sub-pages automatically contain links back to the main page and help with page organization.

See Help:Editing for details on most of the formatting techniques available on DocForge.

Editing

As an open wiki, you may edit just about any regular topic page on DocForge. We'd prefer if you log into the site, but you're free to edit pages completely anonymously (although we occasionally disable anonymous editing during periods of high bot spam activity). For formatting styles and linking, see Help:Editing. Be sure to follow our simple policies.

To add images, follow the Upload Files link in the bottom section of the sidebar. Then reference the images with the examples on the page. See the Mediawiki help page for details.
