Northern Norway will be hit by its first snowstorm of the season this weekend.

While the autumn weather continues in the south, the Northerners will have a taste of winter this weekend.
“It is beginning to to be winter. Precipitation is white all the way down to the lowlands on both Saturday and Sunday in the northern counties,” said state meteorologist Ingrid Bentsen at the Norwegian Meteorological Institute.
There is no talk about large amounts of snow, and it should begin to disappear as the weekend draws to a close.

There is no talk about large amounts of snow, and it should begin to disappear as the weekend draws to a close.

Meteorologists urged people earlier this week to switch to winter tires in northern Norway. Now this is also being recommended for the West Coast, especially for those going to the mountains during the autumn holiday.

“The snowline is quite low. You may want to consider it if you want to go up to the mountains. From 800 meters and above, all the precipitation will be white in many mountain areas,” said Bentsen.

The rest of the country, it seems, will escape the snow and sleet in this “first round.” But frosts should not be ignored. Winter may not be far off for Norway, after all.
