TANZ - SIGNALE 2004

Vienna Festival Week, 7 March to 14 March 2004, to mark
the 200th anniversary of the birth of Johann Strauss I on 14 March 2004

The festival week is the idea of the "Wiener Institut für Strauss-Forschung" (Vienna Institute for Strauss Research) and has been planned by it in co-operation with the City of Vienna and a number of organisations, including the Johann Strauss-Gesellschaft Wien (Johann Strauss Society of Vienna), the "Wiener Johann Strauss-Orchester" (Johann Strauss Orchestra of Vienna), the "Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde" in Wien (Society of the Friends of Music in Vienna), the "Theater in der Josefstadt" (Josefstadt Theatre), ORF Austrian Radio and its "Radiokulturhaus" (Radio Culture House). It will offer a varied programme which will take account of different interests, both of Strauss researchers and of lovers of Strauss music.

Saturday 6 March

Prelude

15.00: Johann Strauss I guided walk with Susanne and Eduard Strauss
Meeting point: on Stefansplatz, at the star commemorating Johann Strauss I at the end of the Vienna Music Mile (opposite the Haas House)
Maximum number of participants: 20
Duration: 2 - 2 ½ hours. Please note that there will be no break during the tour, so participants should be good walkers.
Cost: € 10 per participant, to defray expenses

Sunday 7 March

(Biedermeier operetta in 2 acts based on the life of Therese Krones, the famous early nineteenth-century Viennese actress, and first performed in 1913)
