Bill Hader does Interview with BHO!
Oct 8th, 2007 by Hiram
Over the past week, I’ve been in contact with Bill and asked if he would do an interview for the site. He was more than happy to not only answer my questions, but also some from other fans. Thanks to everyone who submitted questions for the interview. His answers were very informative and we appreciate him taking the time out of his busy schedule to talk with us. To read our exclusive interview,
BHO: You’ve mentioned that Neil Gaiman’s *Sandman* comic
is a good luck charm. Is it the comic itself that brings good luck
or is it something within the comic that inspires you?
Bill: It brought me luck. And it was more of a weird
superstition with Neil Gaiman’s work in general. I
would HAVE to have one of his books on me at all
times! I also read his blog at neilgaiman.com and
found out that he had seen the Times article and was
happy that he could be good luck for someone. He’s
awesome. Go out and buy his book SMOKE
the first SANDMAN trade and you’ll be hooked.
you become accustomed to it?
Bill: I still get nervous, sometimes more than others.
LeBron James show I was nervous because it was the
first show back and you’re getting accustom to
everything again. Seth’s show, not that much. I pace
a lot and stare at the ground and generally creep
people out right before a show.
(On SNL, strictly movies, both?)
Bill: I don’t know. Doing it all! I just hope I’m working
with some of the same people I’m working with now. I’m
very lucky to know and work with some of the funniest
humans on the planet.
how did it feel to have him in your domain on SNL?
Bill: I love it! He’s as good a writer as he is a performer.
He came up with some really funny jokes that ended up
in the show. He brings a great energy to everything he
works on. It feels like play and not work.
in Superbad, Hot Rod, and Knocked Up?
Bill: A little bit more, maybe. I had some dudes yell “Oh
shit! The cops!” from a cab once. That was funny.
favorite movie and why?
Bill: EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, of course! It has everything you
want in a movie! Action, romance, Taun-taun’s, yoda,
Han Solo getting frozen in carbonite. I love that
movie. It’s also the first movie I can remember seeing
in the theater. I was like three or something. The
scene where Han is frozen scared the living shit out
of me.
BHO: You told the New York Times that you’re currently
working on a screenplay, how is that coming and can you
tell more about it?
Bill: I’m writing it with my friend Nick Jasenovec, who I’ve
known since community college in Scottsdale,
coming along great. It’s kind of a horror comedy…I
guess. I suck at pitching stuff, so I’ll just leave it
at that.
do you find this label annoying or has it become a badge
of honor?
Bill: I’m very comfortable with my geeky-ness. I’m proud of
the nerdy shit I did growing up. It gave me a weird
sense of confidence. “I know you guys think this is
lame, but I don’t care. I love it!”
BHO: Will we be seeing anymore of Vinni Vedici this
upcoming season?
Bill: Spero così! Penso che tutto dipenda sopra se possiamo
calcolare via per comprendere le impressioni casuali
con i puppets, il gorilla di Kung-Fu ed il gibberish
italiano.
BHO: LOL, hopefully that’s a yes. Grazie… grazie Bill Hader!
BHO: You have several upcoming movie projects;
which ones are you most excited for fans to see?
Bill: All of them! I think people will love PINEAPPLE
EXPRESS and FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL. I hear they
both “tested well” which is good. TROPIC THUNDER is
huge! It’s like an epic war comedy. And ADVENTURELAND
is going to be great. I’m psyched to be working with
Mottola again. He’s the best.
BHO: We see you sport the plaid shirts; are you
making this your intentional trademark?
Bill: I didn’t realize it was a trademark until my publicist
said something after I did Leno. “Rocking the plaid
shirt again. Nice!” I get them because they are
comfortable and fairly cheap at Urban Outfitters. Will
Forte and Jason Sudeikis wear them as well. Plaid
shirts are the official shirt of SNL!
BHO: Sweet, you actually inspired me to buy few pairs
myself. Now I too can look like the spokesperson for
Brawny paper towels.
BHO: How did you find out about Bill Hader Online?
Bill: A friend of mine told me about it. “There’s another
fansite for you!” I was very flattered. I’m amazed you
have the time to maintain the site
You’re a machine!
BHO: I try, lol. I’m honored you visit the site.
….Oh, and for future reference …I prefer “love machine”
(ques music), but it’s cool. Haha.
**Questions from Fans Section**
You do a lot of impressions on SNL; growing up,
who were some of your favorite people to imitate?
–Chris from Birmingham,
Bill: Growing up, I always imitated my teachers and friends.
I didn’t think about famous people until I had my SNL
audition. I had a Chemistry teacher named Mr. Sullivan
who I would imitate in class. When I was really young
I could do Bart Simpson, but then I went through
puberty and that was that.
Who do you consider to be most influential in
your decision to pursue an acting career? –Jassie B
from Los Angeles,
Bill: I don’t know. I guess my friend Eric Filipkowski,
because he said “You should take classes at Second
City” and that was the starting point. I went and
watched him perform at a show there and he was so
funny and laid back. I came out and was like “Sign me
up!” Go to his website:
http://hollywoodphony.wordpress.com/
-Is it true that you always greet Will Forte with
“Hi, there” like in the Lyle Kane sketch? -Larissa
from Slovenia
Bill: It’s really something he and his friend and co-writer
of the Lyle Kane show, John Solomon, would do and I
just started doing it as well. It’s infectious.
Sometimes we just do a high pitched
“Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!” which never, EVER gets
annoying.
I’m a horror movie fan, and i was wondering if you could
ever see yourself performing, or working on a horror film?
..You rock dude! - Alexandra from Chicago,
Bill: Thanks! I would LOVE to be in a horror movie!
Something creepy…like THE THING or something. That
would be so cool!
You’ve been praised for your impressions; do you think
that your vocal abilities lead you to focus more on verbal
comedy, as opposed to physical humor? – Jassie B from
Los Angeles,
Bill: I’ve never thought about it, really. I guess so. A
character always becomes clear to me once I’ve figured
out the voice. Like in
the whole character – what he wore, what he ate, etc –
was in place.
BHO: Again, thanks to Bill Hader for the interview and to everyone who submitted questions. To discuss this in our forum, click here.
That is so awesome that you got to interview Bill!! It’s also cool that he answered my question!! Thanks Bill and BHO!!

He’d love to be in a horror movie, eh? >_> foshizzle!
LOL Alexandra (from Chicago). I found it funny that you asked him about horror movies and his screen play just so happens to be a horror/comedy. Good job!!
Yeah, thats so awesome, when i saw horror/comedy my jaw literally dropped and i made this high-pitched noise, I’m sure only dogs can hear. =D horror=awesome, especially when Bill is involved!
awesome interview man. this interview seems more down to earth than any other interview he’s done so far. this is the best bill hader site on the web.
That was awesome! Horror/comedy? That means itll be like Ghostbusters,Gremlins and tremors, awesome!
Do ya know why Bill doesn;t have a myspace page?
Well Jack, I beleive he once had one, but the space aliens kept probing it, so Tom made him delete it.
No…honestly, i dont know.
Ah,ok!
LOL, “Ghostbusters/gremlins”. I was thinking more of a Shaun of the Dead type movie but I guess anything is possible. Thanks again for all your great questions and to Bill for doing the interview. This interview is definitely a milestone for the site.
Oh yeah that too, Ghostbusters/Gremlins/Tremors/Little Shop of Horrors without the music and Shaun of the Dead all rolled into one!
Sure is a milestone!
i want to ask a question next time!! i can’t wait to see bill’s work when it comes to screenplays. it should be a riot!
You can see one here

I think that’s just a sketch he did with his wife Maggie Carey.
Nope, its co-written by him and Nick Jasenovec

Very cool, I didn’t know that, lol!
Great interview! I am pleased to see that Bill and I share an affinity for Tauntauns, though I have to admit that I am also a fan of the controversial Ewoks.
That’s cool he called you a machine – haha! He probably thought, “What?!! Hey – finally a fansite with a good layout and it’s actually about me”
But 4 real. Thanks for making a fansite that fans can actually enjoy without stacking it with personal fluff. I come 5 times a day – I can’t get enough!!!!!!
I totally agree with JD on his last statement!
