Ham Radio

Amateur Radio
Hello and welcome to my amateur radio pages m6ceb.co.uk my name is Matt and thanks for stopping by. I live in the north west of the UK near Preston with my wife to be Kayleigh and our two cats Mr T and Penny Crayon. I have decided to start a website to share my interest in Ham radio and share some useful information. I have been interested in radio since I was 12 years old having had scanners and cb radio's I then decided in August 2009 to take the Foundation course. I am always updating this website so please put me in your favourites.scanner radio

This is where it all started for me listening to my scanner; I first got a radio scanner when I was 12 years old. I spent many hours listening to the police (before they went digital) fire and ambulance. I was always fascinated how the radio waves travelled around the world, I also had a few CB radio's when I was growing up but I never really took to that because it was shall we say very abused you always had to fight your way through it to get a decent conversation! I then reverted back to the trusty old scanner just listening to what's going on. I then met my beautiful wife to be Kayleigh; her dad is a radio ham so he pointed me in the right direction as to how to achieve my foundation course. Check out ham radio my station. and maybe take a look at our products.

I did my foundation course at the Thornton Cleveleys Amateur Radio Club it was a weekend course and I found it really good and very enjoyable. If you are interested in becoming a radio ham there is loads of clubs around the country who do the foundation course. There are 3 licence classes foundation, Intermediate and full. You can find a club near you by clicking the following link  http://www.rsgb.org/local/if you wish you can email me and I will try and help you if I can.px 888

I am currently only on 2m/70cms as I don't have a HF Radio I do struggle to have a qso on simplex as my antenna is mounted in the loft space so I use repeaters quite a lot. The main repeaters that I use are:

GB3OA

GB3CR

GB3MP

GB3FC

GB3DG

GB3LD

My favourite repeater I use is GB3OA as it has IRLP and echo link. You can find out more information on the GB3OA website http://www.gb3oa.org.uk/.  This repeater is located in Southport on the North West coast of the UK

Please also check out my review of the Realistic pro 29

Update,

I have a new baby boy on the way, he is due on the 3rd of February 2012 and my wife and I are very excited! I have now moved all my gear out of the shack and the spare room is now a nursery! I have now put my Yaesu FT8900R in the car so please check out my ham radio mobile page!

I am still only currently on 2m/70cms and will probably still be on those 2 bands in 5 years! If I feel the urge to have a listen to HF I can go to my father in laws house G0HIJ and keep my finger in the pie so to speak.

Thanks for taking the time to have a look at my little ham radio website I hope you enjoy your stay; I have loads of pages so please have a good look around!
