QS University Rankings – Latin America

QS University Rankings - Latin America

The QS University Rankings – Latin America are the latest addition to the QS rankings portfolio, designed to drill down to another level of institutions in this dynamic and increasingly influential region. The methodology differs somewhat from that used for either the QS World University Rankings® or the QS Asian University Rankings, based on feedback collected from the region, the expert assessment of important factors in the region and the availability of data.

Methodology

Seven indicators are drawn together to form this regional ranking of universities:

30% ACADEMIC REPUTATION from global survey
20% EMPLOYER REPUTATION from global survey
10% PAPERS PER FACULTY and CITATIONS PER PAPER from SciVerse Scopus
10%
10% FACULTY STUDENT Ratio
10% STAFF with PHD
10% WEB IMPACT from Webometrics

Format

The QS University Rankings – Latin America can be found online at www.topuniversities.com[ENGLISH] or www.topmaster.com[SPANISH]. In 2011, the top 100 will be published in rank order and the subsequent 100 published as a range.

Publication date

Inaugural publication date: Tuesday 4th October 2011

NOTE

One key input for the development of this methodology has been the responses gathered from a survey of academics and institutional representatives earlier this year. Those following our work closely will notice the divergence between this methodology outlined above and the initially intended approach laid out below. Part of this has come from a constructive relationship with Cybermetrics Labs enabling us to access data from the Ranking Web of World Universities, but the other influence has been the availability of data. The international indicators, in particular, have been hard work to gather data for at the levels we had hoped and would have needed to justify their inclusion. This is a work in progress and something planned for reintroduction in the future.
