Just caught the first 60 Minutes without Andy Rooney. Nothing but air at the end, after FIVE MINUTES of commercials. Why is Andy Rooney out? Was it voluntary? I seriously doubt it. My feeling is that as long as he has any energy he would be pounding the keys. Why they couldn't let him go on until his last day is a mystery. The show will never be the same, but couldn't they have put SOMEONE on there? What a shame...

Hope you are well, Andy and don't succumb to retiree's disease. There's no cure for that one...

I've only ever seen one of his pieces. It was one on all the newspapers he gets, and how you can't read one edition of the New York Times in one day.

I did see, however, in the story on the evening news before his final segment was to air a few days later...his son has his eyebrows.

I like Andy Rooney the same way as I like any other top professional doing their job well for 80 years. He is a lucky man who was able to stay at his job for all these years. I don't think he has any more rights than any other senior who is recognized by his appearance on television and nothing more. If he had a great job digging ditches for all these years, no one would pay any attention to him if they ran into him at dinner- he chose to be on TV!

So the next time you see him on the street, walk up. Say Hi and if he doesn't like it, he will get over it.

I mean no disrespect. I think Mr Rooney is a national treasure and should be treated as such. However, I don't think he has any more rights to privacy than the rest of us.

And now, a few words about Andy Rooney.
Did you ever wonder... Why is it that... How come so many people... have such a high opinion of Andy Rooney? Perhaps, because we see through the famously gruff exterior and admire a man who speaks his mind.
Mr. Rooney, (I dare not call you Andy) I am also a writer and for a time worked at CBS. I vividly remember passing you in the halls. I desperately wanted to introduce myself- but always made it a point to respect your privacy. Anyway, I'm sure you'll be pleased to know that you never looked very approachable.
I'm sorry to see the end of the Andy Rooney era. No, I'm not sorry for you, Mr. Rooney, You've had a marvelous career. I'm sorry because we all face a future bereft of your wit and wisdom. It's been a great ride, Mr. Rooney. Thanks.
Steve

My apologies to all. I cannot imagine why my comment was repeated so many times.

So long Andy, thanks for sharing. We are all loosing the best minutes of sixty minutes. No bad news in it and a little bit of common sense from the perspective that comes with experience and age.
