Having these types of gardens in school is such a wonderful idea. I remember doing something similar when I was a kid, I'd go to these so called school gardens instead of summer camp where I planted vegetables in my own little square of soil that had my name on it and then I'd take care of it everyday. Of course there were other activities to fill up the day but the proud feeling of having grown something on my own and then bringing it home to my family and have it be part of dinner really sticks with me.
These gardens needn't cost much, it should only be the cost of some land, soil, seeds and an instructor.
