What's In Your Facility

Three-Meter Springboard

Two one's and two three's? Is your dryland equipment next to the pool or do you have a separate room or dryland center? Do you train out of a college, municipal or private pool, or do you scrounge for every available bit of pool time you can find? And what happens when you have a problem with a diving board or fulcrum?

Greensboro, Get Ready

Tuesday January 10, 2012

A diving onslaught is coming  to North Carolina this summer - divers, divers everywhere. The point here is that Greensboro, N.C. will be the host this summer of three major diving competitions; the USA Diving Age Group Diving Nationals, USA Diving Junior National Diving Championships and the AT&T National Diving Championships.

All these events will take place at the brand spankin' new Greensboro Aquatic Center beginning August  2 with Age Group Nationals and concluding August 19 with senior nationals. And for the first time since 2006, these events will be held in the same venue which will no doubt make the coaches happy!

Twelve Days of Christmas for Divers

Saturday December 24, 2011

Happy HolidaysWell it's Christmas Eve, so I guess that means it is time to break out in song and I can't think of a better song to sing than the "Twelve Days of Christmas." Of course this is a diving site, so the song would not be complete without a diving reference. Okay, twelve diving references!

Winter Nationals Results...So Far

Tuesday December 20, 2011

2012 Men's Winter Nationals Synchro SpringboardThe USA Diving 2012 Winter Nationals are going on right now. Lots of exciting and interesting diving going on, and comments and observations will come later as I must keep on my judging hat right now.

National titles so far for Troy Dumais and Kristian Ipsen in men's synchronized springboard, Summer Allman in women's 1-meter, Chris Colwill in men's 3-meter, Laura Ryan and Amy Cozad in women's synchronized platform , Haley Ishimatsu in women's platform and David Boudia and Nick McCrory in men's synchronized platform.

One interesting note is that where you used to see lots of coaches on the pool deck with handheld cameras, now you see them holding up iPad instead- multiple coaches holding an iPad of their head looks a bit odd!

Aussie Winter Training!

Thursday December 15, 2011

This has been on Facebook, and it is worth checking out. I can't embed the video, but follow the link. It is worthwhile watching. It's an Australian training video from 1959 - that's over 50 years ago for you finger counters. Pretty neat stuff. The dives into a sand pit (and I mean headfirst - in a belt of course) are crazy. I don't think we could get away with that anymore. And the suits, well they are priceless!
