Kate Bush has got a big fan in Big Boi, who has been listening to her since he was a kid and has been listening to her current record, 50 Words for Snow, since he got an advance copy a couple weeks ago. “Knowing her music and being a fan, it’s very, very deep Kate Bush for me,” he says. “It’s concentrated. It’s raw emotion. It’s almost like a scene from her diary – she seems to be in love like a motherfucker. Really, really, really in love.”
The rapper also acknowledges he’d love to collaborate with Bush on his upcoming album, Daddy Fat Sax, creating something organically together in the studio. Read more about Big Boi’s thoughts on 50 Words For Snow and stream it on RollingStone.com.

Thrity-three years ago today, over 900 members of Reverend Jim Jones’ Jonestown community in northwest Guyana died from apparent cyanide poisoning. Amidst the devastation, controversy and investigation of Jones’ questionable political practices and involvement in the alleged mass suicide, Tim Cahill visited Guyana and reported back to Rolling Stone with a gruesome account of a terrible tragedy. Almost without exception, every proposal put forth by GOP lawmakers and presidential candidates is intended to preserve or expand tax privileges for the wealthiest Americans. Most of their plans, which are presented as commonsense measures that will aid all Americans, would actually result in higher taxes for middle-class taxpayers and the poor.

Rolling Stone’s political correspondent Tim Dickinson explains how the tax policies pursued by the Republican Party have changed in the past 14 years — and says those changes have led to greater economic inequality in our country. (via nprfreshair)

Occupy Wall Street at Zuccotti Park was cleared of people, tents and tarps by New York City police early this morning, but the movement has promised to keep going by whatever means necessary. Since the beginning, the Occupy protests around the country have been magnets for musicians and rockers with similar political beliefs who support and encourage the protestors. Many bring their instruments and play music, while others sing along with large groups of protestors or lend their support by just visiting. The long list of musical supporters includes Pete Seeger, Tom Morello, Kanye West, Katy Perry and Patti Smith, among others.
Check out our Rock Occupies Wall Street gallery for photos of some of the artists lending their voices to the movement.

The hilarious Marcel the Shell With Shoes On is back, in a new video by SNL alum Jenny Slate and Dean Fleischer-Camp, both of whom made Rolling Stone’s 10 Funniest People of 2011 list. The clip, which is simply subtitled “Two,” features Marcel talking about his daily transportation on a bug, fancy muffin beds and his refusal to beg for the nickname he so desperately desires (“Ace”).

Marcel is by far our favorite viral Internet shell, with or without shoes on.

The odds are ever in our favor today. If you’ve been simultaneously yearning for more footage from the upcoming The Hunger Games movie and annoyed at how much of a tease the sneak peek during the VMAs was, then feast your eyes on the new full-length trailer. It begins with Katniss (played by Jennifer Lawrence of Winter’s Bone fame) sneaking off to the woods in District 12 to hunt with her best friend, Gale. It picks up the pace as tributes are picked, sent to the Capitol, trained, and advised. This longer overview allows viewers to see Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, and Lenny Kravitz in their roles, as well as the semi-futuristic world of Panem. The trailer ends with an ominous voice counting down the seconds to the start, and then Katniss and Peeta race to a pile of supplies before The Hunger Games title appears on the screen, once again leaving us wanting more. The film will be in theaters March 23, 2012, leaving us all plenty of time to re-read the books and nitpick the film adaptation.

Hey girl, did you know it was Ryan Gosling’s birthday?
The actor/musician/dog lover/street fight breaker-upper/meme-inspirer turns 31 today. Swoon-worthy since he first appeared in 2002’s Murder By Numbers, the versatile actor was most recently spotted at Austin’s Fun Fun Fun Fest filming his new movie Lawless (and hanging backstage with Slayer’s Dave Lombardo).

Happy Birthday, Leonardo DiCaprio!
It seems like just yesterday that Jack Dawson was telling us to “never let go,” but everyone’s favorite 90s heartthrob is 37 today.
In honor of the big day - his movie J. Edgar also hit theaters - Rolling Stone is looking back on the actor’s more than two decades in the biz. To see what DiCaprio’s been up to (like any of us could forget), check out our gallery at RollingStone.com.

“I said ‘Brrr! It’s cold in here! There must be some Toros in the atmosphere!’” Kirsten Dunst brought it to Rolling Stone this week when she sat down with Peter Travers to talk (and cheer) about vampires, The Bachelor and her new film Melancholia

Friend and neighbor to R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe, “Kiki D” also appeared in the video for “We All Go Back to Where We Belong,” R.E.M.’s final single. “On the other side of that wall [in the video] is my apartment,” she says. “He brings over snacks sometimes.”

For details on her competition with Melancholia co-star Alexander Skarsgård and more from “Off the Cuff,” visit RollingStone.com or watch the video above!
