Collections Overview

The Egyptian Museum, Cairo, houses one of the largest and best collections of pharaonic antiquities in the world. A project has been underway since 2006 to build a new electronic database to document and track the antiquities both displayed and stored in this illustrious institution. To date, records for over 150,000 objects have been created in this database; however, a majority of these records are preliminary. Available through the interface here are only records that have been through the full approval process. The museum will continue to add additional records as they are completed.

The information in these records comes for the most part from the museum’s register books, so if you find any additional information through your research, please feel free to contact the museum’s Registration, Collections Management, and Documentation Department at emcregistrars@gmail.com. We will be very happy to update the museum’s records with any documented corrections or additions.

If you are interested in information about EMC objects not available on this web site, or would like to obtain images of any EMC objects, please visit the Requests page for instructions.
