Senior Project Manager

Supervisor: Cable Green, Director of Global Learning

Works closely with: CEO and education, technology, communications, operations, science, legal and development teams.

FLSA Status: Exempt (Professional) Full-time Employee

Purpose of job

Coordinate the development, management and documentation of project planning and implementation including developing project goals and deliverables, prioritizing, scope statements and key success indicators, schedules, cost estimates and budgets, resource allocation and procurement strategy, quality management, risk management, task tracking and reporting. Project Manager will ensure consistency with Creative Commons strategy, consistency of process across projects and customer satisfaction with the products.

Projects

TAACCCT Federal Grant Program and other Creative Commons projects as assigned.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain program timelines and work plans; initiating, tracking and coordinating multiple strands of activity; ensure that the respective projects and deliverables are progressing in a timely manner, individually and in coordination with each other.
  • Prepares/issues regular project status reports and updates to project schedules.
  • Proactively identify emergent problems and difficulties in reaching key milestones and deliverables, and initiate appropriate action to redress such problems.
  • Support staff in work plan development and plan approval process; update plans with regularity and communicate such updates appropriately.
  • Maintain project management software, and train staff in utilization of software.
  • Monitor overall budgets and expenditures for projects.
  • Plan, organize and facilitate program management meetings; solicit agenda items from the program members, organize and facilitate productive conversations, communicate decisions to necessary parties and follow up vigorously on action items.
  • Manage all program contracts (deliverables, timelines, etc.) with external development partners and consultants; ensure that all deadlines are anticipated early and met in a complete, effective, and timely manner.
  • Manage, maintain, and initiate effective communication across internal and external program staff; establish and reinforce predictable communication routines; coordinate meetings, online communication, phone calls and videoconferences; evaluate, problem-solve and improve communication flow across the program.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with project leads; regularly follow up to ensure that program tasks and deadlines are being met.
  • Strategically direct the program management function to meet strategic objectives; facilitate team formation and task initiation; anticipate needs to increase/reallocate staff; initiate strategic planning conversations for the future of the program.
  • Participate with all other Creative Commons staff in helping to write grants and reports.
  • Other projects or duties as assigned.

Education requirements

Bachelor’s or related course work and work experience.

Experience requirements

  • At least two years of progressively responsible project management or coordination experience is required (preferably with complex, multi-dimensional projects); three or more years preferred.
  • Familiarity with project management software is required; deep experience with project management software is a plus.
  • Strong familiarity with Project Management Institute (PMI) best practices.
  • PMP or PgMP certification highly desirable.
  • Experience contributing to open source, open education, open licensing, and / or other open content projects preferred.

Senior Project Analyst

Purpose of job

The Project Analyst provides research support and designs, collects, evaluates, and prepares research and/or other complex statistical data to answer Creative Commons (CC) project and organizational strategic impact research questions (What are the impacts of CC? In the absence of CC, what would the world look like?). Prepares statistical and narrative reports and recommendations, and participates in the analysis and interpretation of data as needed. Develops, maintains, and ensures quality control of databases and assists in development and implementation of performance measurement systems.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Provides research and analytical services to Creative Commons. A successful candidate will need to be creative as CC research will not be typical and will be challenging research. This is an exciting position for the right person.
  • Assists in developing accountability and performance measures for Creative Commons projects.
  • Inform policy development and executive level decision support.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness including outcomes and analysis for:
    • The effect of the Creative Commons attribution license requirement on the DOL TAACCCT grant and the impact of the services provided by the OPEN consortia.
    • Other Creative Commons projects as assigned.
  • Develops and utilizes methods for the evaluation and quality control of research data.
  • Designs and/or develops specific databases for collection, tracking, and reporting of research data, as appropriate to the position.
  • Collects, analyzes, interprets, and summarizes data in preparation for generation of statistical and analytical reports.
  • Utilizes specified statistical software to analyze and interpret research data, as appropriate to the individual position.
  • Maintains computerized collection and tracking of relevant data and records of research methods and results.
  • Liaison with the broader “open” research community including (but not limited to): open access, open educational resources, free culture, free/open source software and open government.
  • May participate in or initiate project proposal writing.
  • May lead, guide, and train staff performing related work.
  • Participate with all other Creative Commons staff in helping to write grants and reports.

Education requirements

Bachelor’s degree. Masters preferred.

  • Utilization of in-depth knowledge of statistical concepts.

Chief Technology Officer

The Chief Technology Officer manages all aspects of the company’s technology infrastructure and provides strong leadership in setting the overall technology direction and goals for the organization. Responsibilities are twofold. First, directly managing the staff responsible for supporting the technology needs of staff; managing the organization’s intranet and internet services; directing the organization’s varied development projects; ongoing technical oversight of the company’s products and services; and solving the most challenging of technology development problems facing the organization. Second, the CTO is a visionary, looking beyond the existing curve with respect to opportunities and innovations that Creative Commons can explore and embrace to remain timely and relevant to its broad constituency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, lead and implement an ambitious technology strategy for Creative Commons.
  • Establish technical priorities, standards, and procedures with input as needed from external technology experts.
  • Oversees all programming and analysis activities including quality standards. Attracts and oversees a team of software developers building innovative, robust software both for company use and for public code release.
  • Manages technology staff in carrying out the overall goals and plans. Ensures project timelines and budgets are met.
  • Manages all activities relating to operations and maintenance of corporate computer and peripheral equipment including, but not limited to corporate servers and personal computers, data communications and storage, security, application support internet and various other internet and intranet services such as mail and web.
  • Oversees the support of a number of different public web sites, including the company’s home page, separate home pages for the company’s various programs.
  • Plans the technical infrastructure of the company’s systems to accommodate future growth, including providing advice on and assistance in securing centralized technology solutions to support the corporate shared service model (i.e. one content management solution, one image archive solution).
  • Facilitates and encourages external developer contributions to company technology projects and external open source projects that implement Creative Commons features.
  • Establishes and maintains key partner and vendor relationships.
  • Works with the CEO and development personnel to seek funding for the company’s various technical projects.
  • Represents the company in various technical fora. Coordinates with other outside communities, companies, and institutions to further Creative Commons’ mission, for example W3C and Mozilla.

Education Requirements

University degree in the field of computer science, or another relevant discipline. An advanced degree in one these fields is a plus.

Experience Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to envision web-based services that meet consumer needs or solve business problems.
  • Three to five years experience managing web application development.
  • Three to five years experience with start-up companies.
  • Hands-on experience coding in more than one currently popular web application framework.
  • Familiar with more than one software development methodology.
  • Ability to discern user requirements and develop specifications.
  • Has contributed to one or more open source projects.
  • Skill with CSS, XHTML, one or more Javascript frameworks, and AJAX.
  • Knowledge of web standards.
  • Experience with GNU/Linux system administration and web server configuration.
  • Knowledge of Internet protocols and RFC standards, database management systems, and revision control systems.
  • Familiarity with information security vulnerabilities and risk management.

Project Coordinator / Executive Assistant

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Full-time Employee

Purpose of job

This is an intermediate administrative role that is responsible for executive, management and office support under the supervision of the CEO.

Essential duties and responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Work with staff to schedule regular group meetings.Schedule one-on-one staff meetings with the CEO.
  • Coordinate external meetings and special events for CEO and high priority for organization.
  • Support board meeting logistics.
  • Handle travel, business meeting and special event arrangements, credit card reconciliation, expense reporting, other executive support for CEO.
  • Provide scheduling and meeting support for managers.
  • Assist in visitor and meeting coordination.
  • Add CEO and staff-attended events to the Events wiki.
  • Other office back-up duties, as needed.

Non-essential duties and responsibilities

  • Help manage logistics for external events and conferences.

Education requirements

Minimum: high school graduate / GED.

Experience requirements

Intermediate level position. At least 3 years of experience in relevant field/role, or combination of related course work and work experience.
