BBC Nepali broadcasts 30 minutes daily between 20.45 and 21.15 Nepali Time. The programme covers a wide spectrum of news and current affairs relating to Nepal and the rest of the world. Apart from regular reports and analyses, we are also famed for exclusive and hard-hitting interviews.

Role


You'll perform the full duties of a Producer/Reporter which will include researching, reporting, writing, translating and editing or adapting stories or programme material. As well as finding contributors and interviewees, you'll also find sources of material and/or actuality whilst maintaining professional journalistic standards of accuracy, impartiality, fair dealing and adhering to the BBC’s Producers guidelines. We need you to perform at the microphone with or without a script, conduct interviews, chair discussions and act as a participant in other productions, whether live, pre-recorded or on location.

As well as being responsible for a moving story, amending and updating material as required, you'll also need to think through and around editorial problems, developing realistic alternative strategies and approaches and offer ideas for items and programmes/series. You'll actively contribute to the editorial planning process, suggesting new angles on existing stories and to put forward stories not yet covered. 

Requirements


We need an experienced journalist who has recent and relevant experience. As well as excellent knowledge of written and spoken Nepali and English, you’ll also have the ability to translate quickly and accurately from English to Nepali in a style suitable for broadcasting and online. Due to the nature of the role bilingual journalistic experience will be an advantage. Wide familiarity with Nepal and an in-depth understanding of the country’s history, politics, social issues, mindsets and contemporary issues is also needed as is extensive knowledge of the media situation in the target area. With the needs of the pan-Nepali audience a constant focus.

Your good broadcasting voice and the ability to acquire the appropriate presentation style will be matched with you ability to write reports, backgrounders, analysis and features for radio and internet. You’ll have good keyboard/computer skills with the ability to acquire technical skills and to operate technical equipment.
