FT. MYERS - Occupy Ft. Myers protesters are spending their second night in front of the old Lee County courthouse temporarily. They relocated there after being asked to leave Centennial Park because of the Taste of the Town festival being held there this weekend.

“The city of Ft. Myers requested that we vacate Centennial Park," said John Scott, an occupy Ft. Myers protest organizer.

During their 3 weeks at the park, demonstrators were issued $130 citations for staying in the park after hours without a permit.

So are they breaking the law again by demonstrating in front of the courthouse? Since the courthouse in on county land, protest organizers sought permission from county officials who in turn gave them the OK to set up at the location without a permit for the next few days. "They gave us permission.  They said that it was for our freedom to assemble peacefully under the constitution.  Our first amendment right and so we took them up on the offer," said Scott.

Organizers say they will be returning to Centennial Park after the Taste of the Town next Monday. The city told Fox 4 that it is prepared to issue a permit to the group that will last ten days. City officials will then inspect the site every ten days to make sure no one is breaking the rules before reissuing the permit.
