Imagine, if you will, Chic produced by James Murphy; a collaboration between Prince and The Human League, or Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones remixing 'Off The Wall'. It is some measure of Penguin Prison's skills in the studio, on vocals and in terms of songwriting, that such illusory marvels have been achieved on this superb single as well as his self-titled collection.
On 'Fair Warning', PP's synthesized version of 80s disco funk soars as ever - a dance-floor filler to welcome in the dawn. The single was mixed by Chris and Dan Grech-Marguerat (Radiohead, Scissor Sisters). Its booming beats, shimmering spectral synths and breathless honey vocals all add up to something delicious, with a treat of amazing remixes from Disco Bloodbath, Dirty Vegas, LaMond, Alex N, Club Clique, Goldroom, Squarehead and Penguin himself that have just been serviced to club. A download bundle of selected remixes will be released on August 22, two weeks before the album finally drops, much to the delight of his eager army of fans who've been waiting some time to hear it . . . They won't be disappointed.

First of all, the single...the radio edit of "Fair Warning" is on sale now - as you know, you can pick it up here from iTunes.
You can also pre-order the "Fair Warning" remix EP, out officially on August 29th, featuring remixes from Penguin Prison himself, Dirty Vegas, Goldroom, and Alex Nagshineh. iTunes' bundle also includes an exclusive remix from Squarehead. Pre-order on iTunes , Amazon , or Play .
Then the album is released on September 5th...the wait is nearly over! The album will be available on regular single CD and download, but we also have some great bonus versions. Click here to view the different versions of the album available to pre-order. You can also pre-order the physical copy of the album from the Stranger Records store here .
On download, there's exclusive bonus content with the album on both iTunes and Amazon, and HMV have an exclusive limited edition double CD with a bonus disc of remixes.

Del Rey's 'Video Games' single - released in most territories this
week, has climbed to the top of iTunes charts worldwide. Since its
release, 'Video Games' reached the #10 spot on the Main chart and #3 on
the Pop chart in the U.S., and has also ranked #1 in 9 countries,
including Australia, France, Norway and Holland. The single is Top 10 in
Sweden, Spain and Italy.
Thursday night, Lana Del Rey made her TV debut on 'Later With Jools Holland' performing "Video Games" accompanied by piano and a string section. Watch the performance here.
Last week, after her eight European shows sold-out in a matter of minutes, tickets for Lana's upcoming December shows at NYC's Bowery Ballroom, LA's Troubadour and Toronto's Mod Club also sold-out immediately.

"Directed by Jake Sumner, "Don't F*** With My Money" was shot in New York City last month and it follows Mr. Penguin as he takes a quick stroll through Occupy Wall Street and Occupy Times Square to join in on the protests. Beyond simply being a music video, Sumner and Glover's collaboration truly captures the essence of OWS with this documentary-style clip, featuring hundreds of protesters rallying, holding up signs and dancing together in the streets. Even the police start getting into the groove, and it's kind of incredible to watch. A polished, verging on perfect indie-pop proposition, the all new Thomas Tantrum come bearing scrumptious melodies, lyrical sophistication and, for the very first time, the occasional synth.
It would be foolish not to mention that this new instrument in Thomas Tantrum's eclectic, electric arsenal came about through accident rather than design. "I kind of fell down a hill" murmurs guitarist David Miatt mysteriously. "So I couldn't play guitar for a while".
The fabulous 'Sleep', the first single from their total ruddy charmer of a second album, 'Mad By Moonlight', was the triumphant result of Dave's flirtation. Kicking off with a Lulu-worthy wail from a heartily lunged Megan, the strutting skewed-soul anthem and indie disco floor filler throws down the gauntlet for Thomas Tantrum Mk. 2. Far from chucking a Korg on everything as many acts in current musical climate have done, Thomas Tantrum's new effort is a lesson in harnessing the power of sonic diversity.

Even if you never find out what a Penguin Prison is, there's no denying Chris Glover aka Penguin Prison has made a brilliant record. If you like brainy but boppy New York disco, as accessible as it is angular, all burbling bass lines, resonant rhythms, shimmering synths and heavenly melodies, you'll love the PP album.

"It's not a concept album about Michael," says Prison, or maybe we should call him Penguin, of his all-time hero and the notion that PP's album is what an updated Jackson, a Jackson afforded a modern, edgy production, might have sounded like. "But it's definitely been influenced by him."
Penguin was born, appropriately, at the dawn of electrofunk, in 1983 - the post-disco era of Beech Boys Don't Make Me Wait and D Train's You're The One For Me - and grew up, an only child, on New York's Upper East Side with his mother, a business coach, and father, who writes handbooks on running.?"It was cool," he says of his upbringing. "The best thing about growing up in New York was being around all the other people who later turned out to be successful in the same field as me."
These childhood friends included everyone from fellow contemporaries electro-disco exponent Holy Ghost!, who appears on and co-wrote tracks for the PP album, to R&B goddess Alicia Keys - the latter who attended the same performing arts school on Broadway, where she majored in vocals, even appearing in the same plays as PP.

Lana Del Rey grew up in Lake Placid on the outer edges of New York State. Herein some of her unique musical flavour was incubated. "It has an epic, nostalgic feel. It's in the middle of a National Park. But it's also a struggle because it's a town built on tourism that no-one goes to anymore." At 18, she fulfilled her lifelong ambition of decamping to New York City. "Since I was little I knew I would end up there," she says, "Every day is a pleasure there. Every single day I walk out of the door is a good day. I like everything about it. New York totally rewards me for my love of it."
Lana's songs came out of a mixture of her love of David Lynch, Black and White 50's movies, Coney Island, Hip-Hop and heartbreak."There's something beautiful about the fight. About any fight" explains Lana "I'm talking about epic, knocked-down, dragged-out love stories in song. That's what I'm heading towards".
Stranger are delighted to announce the signing of Lana del Rey's debut single Video Games. It is due for global release on October 9th and is available to pre-order from August 12th on limited picture disc 7" vinyl (the first lucky 100 purchasers will receive a signed copy). The single is complimented by an additional track called Blue Jeans.
