    Man found shot to death in Pasadena

    Authorities are investigating the fatal shooting of a man early Tuesday in a residential area of Pasadena.

    Police responded to reports of gunshots about 6 a.m. and soon discovered the body on Dearborn Street near North Marengo Avenue, said Lt. Pete Hettema of the Pasadena Police Department.

    Teenager charged as adult in fatal Huntington Beach stabbing

    A teenager accused of fatally stabbing a 19-year-old man at a Huntington Beach park is being charged as an adult, officials from the Orange County district attorney's office said Tuesday.

    Jesse Taylor Shockey, 16, of Garden Grove is being held on $1-million bail. Prosecutors allege he stabbed Dylan Austin, 19, late Wednesday night at Lake View Park following an argument and physical altercation.

    Burglars steal jewelry, electronics and "teacup" Yorkie named Cookie

    The Hansen family in northern San Diego County is convinced that the burglars who stole several thousand dollars worth of jewelry and electronic gear also stole an even more valued possession, their miniature Yorkshire terrier named Cookie.

    "They even took his bed," said a distraught Joanne Hansen.

    Disbarred attorney gets 70 months in fraud

    A former Newport Beach attorney who was convicted last year in an investment fraud case has been sentenced to 70 months in prison.

    Gerald M. Shaw was indicted in 2007 on federal fraud and money laundering charges for a scheme in which he and another man allegedly took millions of dollars from victims who were promised rates of return as high as 40% a week.

    Apple Valley molestation suspect sought

    San Bernardino County authorities are seeking an Apple Valley martial arts instructor who was arrested earlier this month on suspicion of child molestation.

    Umar Love, 30, was arrested Dec. 14 on suspicion of committing lewd acts on a child, after a 14-year-old girl reported that he had touched her inappropriately on a number of occasions, authorities said. Upon further investigation, sheriff's officials found a total of six females between ages 14 and 16 who reported that they had been molested by Love.

    Sheriff vows to fix ID errors that put hundreds in jail by mistake

    Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca said Tuesday that he will create a task force to minimize the wrongful jailings of people mistaken for wanted criminals.

    Baca's move came in response to a Times investigation that found hundreds of people have been wrongly imprisoned inside Baca’s jails in recent years, with some spending weeks behind bars before authorities realized their true identities.

    Elderly woman attacked by pit bulls dies

    A 76-year-old San Diego woman who underwent amputation of her left leg and right arm after being mauled in June by her neighbor’s pit bulls has died, authorities said.

    Emako Mendoza was working in her yard in the Paradise Hills neighborhood when the two dogs attacked.

    Nephew of Nicole Simpson, girlfriend arrested

    Police arrested the nephew of Nicole Brown Simpson and his live-in girlfriend on charges of domestic violence Tuesday in Santa Ana.

    Police responded to a disturbance call at the couple's apartment building in the 100 block of MacArthur Boulevard at 2:30 a.m., said Stephen Colon, watch commander for the Santa Ana Police Department. After questioning the two residents, police arrested Sean Brown, 25, and Amy Johnson, 22, Colon said.

    'Survivor' producer will not fight extradition to Mexico

    The former "Survivor" producer accused of killing his wife during a family vacation in Cancun will not fight against extradition to Mexico, his attorneys said Tuesday.

    The attorneys for Bruce Beresford-Redman said in a statement Tuesday that their client, who maintains his innocence, will not appeal a judge's ruling that there is enough evidence to extradite him and instead will prepare to defend himself at trial.
