Sophie Scholl: The Final Days depicts the story of a remarkable young woman who stood up for what she believed in. Marc Rothemund directs this film which follows Sophie Scholl (Julia Jentsch), a 21-year old girl from Munich who rises against the Nazi movement during WWII. Political activism was dangerous and not recommended during the second world war, but an anti-Nazi group was formed on a college campus regardless. This group was comprised mostly of students who collectively called themselves the White Rose. Sophie was a big part of this group and regularly distributed pamphlets around campus and the community informing people of the atrocious acts that were being committed by the Nazis. She asked the people to rise up against the military coup. Sadly, Sophie was caught by the Gestapo who arranged for her execution the very next day. Much of the film centers around the events during Sophie's last days. The film was met with great critical acclaim including two Silver Bear awards for Best Director and Best Actress at the 2005 Berlinale film festival.moreless
