Birth Name:
David William Smith
AKA:
David James Elliot, David Smith
Born on 21 September 1960 in Canada, David spends a considerable time of his youth on the Bahamas where his father's relatives still live, while the latter has emigrated to Canada.

Rock music gets the best of David, him being lead singer of a band in high-school times. In the year of his (planned) graduation he drops out of high-school to pursue his dream of becoming a rock star. When he realizes that this path is not likely to prove successful, David returns to school and finally graduates. In that time, one of his teachers points out his talents as an actor when David

More read the part of King Lear in a theatre history class.

Attending Ryerson Polytechnic University in Toronto (specifically chosen to support his acting talent based on his brother's advice), he takes part in an audition for the "Young Company" of the Stratford Shakespearean Festival, earning him a job at that acting group for two years. It is also in Stratford where he wins the Jean Chalmers Award for most promising actor. Getting into Ryerson Polytechnic required taking part in an audtition which he was completely screwing up. Falling back on some singing and improvisation finally proved successful. "It was a miracle", Elliott later stated in an interview.

Some little promising endeavours followed his graduation from Ryerson, such as the role of a male stripper in a b-movie. Elliott's first major part was in CBC's "Street Legal" as an attractive love interest for the lead female lawyers. A little like JAG -- with roles switched. Nevertheless, "Street Legal" was soon featuring him as a co-star and almost giving him the main part in a spin-off from that CBS series. However, David decided to go to Hollywood. "Street Legal" already credited him as "David Elliott" so he would naturally register with the Actor's Guild by that name, only to find that the screen name was already taken, so he added the middle "James".

The first years in Hollywood (1990-1992) turned out as a difficult struggle for him when a promising part in a Disney production vanished because he was too young. It was also in 1992 that he married actress Nanci Chambers with whom he now has a daughter, Stephanie (born 1993), and a son, Wyatt (born 2003).

"The Untouchables" was one step on his way to stardom, along with notable guest appearances in "Melrose Place" and "Seinfeld" (among others). Finally, when JAG auditions selected David as the star, hard times were at an end -- Elliott and Chambers celebrated a proper wedding on 26 June 1999.

His directorial debut took place in spring 2001 when he directed JAG episode 6-22 "Lifeline", a remarkable example of the series.

His look does grab your attention but... hide show

...I'm glad to see him diversifying a bit. There was a brief lag of any David sightings following the demise of JAG, but he now seems to be back on multiple bandwagons, and with a vengeance!
I did watch a couple of episodes of the Canadian made "The Guard" with David in them, but I could not get into the series in general. I did however, recently enjoy watching the TV Fantasy mini-series "Knights of Bloodsteel". Its a completely different genre for him and a seriously different, though no less compelling look! It was quite enjoyable and I do hope there is a follow-up to it because there may be some good story there for "John Serragoth" to tell.
    And, I wouldn't be averse to a "Rabb return" in a JAG TV movie, on the proviso that "Admiral Cheggwidden" also be involved...! ;o}

"Of course I didn't wear boxers, I'm a real man" hide show

    DJE... awesome man!

A great actor with a pretty voice as well :o)
You wouldn't hear me complain if he'd ever sing me a song, anyways.

Of course, my favorite character he ever brought to life is Harmon Rabb Jr. He played him perfectly and i couldn't think of anybody who could do it any better.
I wish he had more success in the movies, though... non of the films that he's been in (longer than two minutes), ever really became a big hit... and i know that it isn't for his acting, cause that is good :D

As you know, he used to be in a band... Now i have heard him sing, play the guitar and the mouth harmonica... or... that's how we call it in Holland, sorry, don't know the English term... the instrument many cowboys play in those westerns... hahaha *sigh*...
and he's pretty good at it!

It would be cool if you'd see him use that in a film... like he used it in JAG a few times :D I think David would do it good in an action comedy drama, a man with an history and an uncertain future... he'd do great!

DJE is also a very nice man, good for his fans, and great for his friends and family... a great dad and a good husband... i think that alone already earns him an award!

Looking good in that uniform! hide show

Oh yes, David James Elliot is one of my favorite men in a navy uniform. He flys, he's a lawyer, he's charming and handsome, what doesn't he do and why haven't I seen more of him? Let's hope he graces us with a movie or something soon because I miss him!

David James Elliott is a charming and talented actor best known for his role as Captain Harmon Rabb, Jr. on JAG. He plays a Naval lawyer and an aviator. He works closely with the secret love of his life, Colonel Sarah MacKenzie. David has a huge fan base. hide show

David James Elliott was so handsome and charming as Rabb. He had a great sense of timing for both drama, comedy and even action. He was a very believable Naval Officer, even if his actions were at times over the top. His sexiness and nice muscles were an obvious attraction, and most viewers agreed that he and Sarah(Mac) were a great pair, in the court room and out. With the conclusion of JAG and the engagement of Harm and Mac I am hopeful that he will join a new show. He has proved himself as a good actor and has developed quite a following. I know that his family values and dedication to our military will give him much support in his future endeavors.
