Ways to Listen

On the Radio

Most weeks This American Life is the most popular podcast in the country, with more than a half million people downloading each episode. When you subscribe to the free weekly podcast, episodes automatically download to your computer. Episodes are available for exactly one week, beginning the Monday after broadcast. Podcast content is the same as the radio broadcast, except on occasion when we include extra material on the podcast that had to be cut for time.

Web Stream

You can listen to every show in our archive for free, here on the website. Just click the Play Episode link at the top of an episode page.

You can also embed any episode into your own blog or website, using the embed code that’s visible when you click Share. It’ll create a This American Life player that lives on your page, similar to how you can embed YouTube videos.

And you can always download the most recent episode for free. Just click Free MP3 on the current episode's page.

Mobile Apps

We have developed This American Life apps for iPhone, iPad and Android.

The iPhone and Android apps give you on-demand access to our entire radio archive, and the ability to download one episode at a time for offline listening. You can also search by contributor, keep a list of your favorite episodes and episodes you've heard, read blog posts, and connect to the weekly live feed – all via cellular connection or wifi. Plus audio and video extras. Our iPhone app won a 2011 Webby Award for best mobile entertainment.

The iPad app has several additional features, including play buttons for every individual story, the ability to download three episodes for offline listening, full show descriptions, live Twitter feed and several exclusive extras like DVD commentary and essays by Ira Glass and others.

NOTE: Android apps can only be downloaded directly to the phone. Visit thisamericanlife.org on your Android to install the app, or click this link on your phone’s browser: http://market.android.com/details?id=org.prx.talbot.

We worked with the fine folks at Public Radio Exchange (PRX) to build our apps. App development is still in its infancy, and we appreciate any feedback: talappfeedback@prx.org
