Staff Teen Book Reviews

101 Things To Do With Ramen Noodles by Toni Patrick-A must for college students.  Some recipes are knid of gross.  We used this for a teen program and it was great!  3 Stars  Submitted by MV

Ask me If I Care by Rubin-More like a textbook than a teen book-a little dated, but interesting.  3 Stars Submitted by MV

The Boy Who Dared by Susan Campbell Bartoletti-A book about a young german boy who published pamphlets of BBC broadcasts during WWII.  He is eventually executed.  A great story, though it was not well written.  3 Stars Submitted by MV

Dead Tossed Waves by Carrie Ryan-The second in a series.  I liked it much better than the first book.  Lots of zombie action and a little romance.  Could be a great book discussion book-themes of friendship, honor, betrayal... 4 Stars  Submitted by MV

Death at Deacon Pond by E.M. Alexander-This teen mystery just happened to catch my eye when I was shelving.  Kerri is the daughter of a police officer whose death three years earlier was declared a suicide.  Kerri, who has some psychic ability, believes that her father was murdered.  From Kerri finding a body in the woods through to the resolution, the story takes enough twists and turns to hold the reader's interest.  5 Stars Submitted by JB

Into the Wild Nerd Yonder by Julie Halpern-This is a hysterically funny book about a girl discovering what a true friend is, and who her true friends are, even if they are nerds!  Loved it!  4 Stars  Submitted by MV

Love is Hell by various authors-This compilation of horror love stories/supernatural romance features some of the best teen authors.  scott westerfield, Meliss Marr, to name a few. It was good!  Submitted by MV

No Choirboy by Susan Kuklin-This high interest book will appeal to teens for its topic.  Interesting read, but not the best.  3 Stars  Submitted by MV

The Order of Odd-Fish by James Kennedy-This book has a slow start, but once it gets going, it is pretty fun.  Sometimes it feels like it is trying too hard, but overall, a charming story of a girl who defies her destiny.  Great for young adults and the young at heart.  (This book was an interlibrary loan) Submitted by BL

The Order of Odd-Fish by James Kennedy-A magnificient, mind-blowing, magnanimous, monstrous, mountainous, machivellian masterpiece!  (AKA, I liked it in cockroach speech!) (This book was an interlibrary loan) Submitted by MV

Peoples History of the American Empire by Howard Zinn-This graphic novel has an interesting perspective on history.  Submitted by MV

PostSecret Confessions on Life, Death & God by Frank Warren-I love and recommend all the PostSecret books.  This one focuses on secrets about religion, life and death.  Some are hysterical, some touch you deeple.  A great read.  Submitted by MV

The Roar by Emma Clayton-The first book in a dystepian trilogy-interesting charades, video-game based-Hope it gets better.  Submitted by MV

Secret to Teen Power by Paul Harrington-Positive thinking for teens.  Good premise, but badly written.  2 Stars  Submitted by MV

Stitches by David Small-This graphic novel is a sad story of a boy growing up in an unloving family.  His grandmother is mentally ill, his mother is cold and cruel and everyone is silent.  This will become a classic.  Submitted by MV

Thin Executioner by Shan-This teen book tells the fable-like story of a third son questing for invincibility.  Very pat treatment-I expected more from Shan.  3 Stars  Submitted by MV

This World We Live In by Pfeffer-This is the final book in the last Survivors trilogy for teens.  Had a huge twist at the end.  this is a very dark series, and the last book the darkest yet.  3 Stars  Submitted by MV

Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson-Another amazing book from the author of "Speak".  this book deals with anorexia and bulemia in an amazing way-detailed, accurate, emotional.  Highly recommended.  5 Stars Submitted by MV
