Guidelines
The Stevens official logo,
Technogenesis branding, and Duck mascot may only be
used pursuant to the guidelines in this document to
identify Stevens Institute of Technology, or Stevens
initiatives or services. Any use that falls outside
what is outlined herein is strictly prohibited.
The Stevens Logo
The official Stevens logo is the primary signature lockup. The logo must never be reproduced by progressive
photocopying since this reduces its sharpness. Also, it must never be redrawn or retraced.
Both methods create variations that result in an inconsistent look, thus destroying the logo’s unifying
function.
The “Official Logo” should be used in most situations.
The “Secondary Logo” should be used in cases where the design of the final piece is improved by the centered logo.
The “Apparel Logo” is appropriate for use on t-shirts, caps, etc. (Please note: it is fine to use the Official Logo and Secondary Logo
on apparel as well -- but this alternate option is provided as some items require a more iconic appearance).
Logo Usage
Area of Isolation
To ensure legibility and to heighten the visual impact of the
logo, an area of isolation equal to at least 1/4 (one-fourth) the
vertical distance of the S-Heading element must be maintained
on all sides of the mark. Additionally, the mark should always
have sufficient contrast with its environment and never be
obscured by competing visual elements. Although strict rules
cannot be given, some general guidelines about the immediate
graphic environment of the mark have been established.
Improper Usage of Logo Elements
Logo Colors
Color, when consistently applied, forms an integral part of the Stevens corporate identity. The mark
may appear in the full color version, black, or Stevens Red (PMS 201). When placing the mark on a
colored background or in a picture, knock the mark out in white. If the background image or color is
light, use the black mark for sufficient contrast and readability. At no time should the full color logo be
placed on top of a photo or image. The official school colors of Stevens Institute of Technology are
red and gray. A Stevens logo color palette has been established to ensure consistency in reproduction.
Refer to the chart below when selecting colors.
For Print
The effectiveness of these colors depends upon the consistency of their reproduction, which requires
a high degree of quality in color matching. PMS (Pantone Matching System) color names should be
provided when specifying color to a vendor.
¹ Process black and Red PMS 201 are also approved colors for use in one-color applications.
² When assigning colors to text in Microsoft Word, select “More Colors,” then “Custom” and insert the
following values using the RGB (red-green-blue) color model.
Logo Variations
Please note: all rules apply to secondary and apparel logos as well.
Official Logo on clear background
When imprinting on transparent backgrounds (such as glass
doors, glassware, vinyl decals, etc.), this version must be used.
Official Logo on white background
When imprinting on paper or other white background, this version
must be used.
Official Logo on light color background
When imprinting the logo on a light colored background (e.g.,
light gray, tan, light blue, etc.), the black logo should be used
for sufficient contrast and readability, unless the color logo
is certain to reproduce effectively. Exceptions may be made
for assorted premium items and wearables (t-shirts, pens,
backpacks, etc.). In these cases, discretion should be used to
ensure logo visibility and integrity.
Official Logo on dark color background
When imprinting the logo on a dark colored background (e.g.
navy blue, charcoal gray, etc.) the white (reversed out) logo
should be used. Exceptions may be made for assorted premium
items and wearables (t-shirts, pens, backpacks, etc.). In
these cases, discretion should be used to ensure logo visibility
and integrity.
Official Logo overprinted on photos
At no time should the full color logo be placed on top of photos
or images. In these situations, the white logo should be
used. Alternatively, the color logo framed in a white box (meeting
the area of isolation guidelines) should be used.
It is never acceptable at any time to use previous or unauthorized
versions of the logo.
