The I-196 Business Spur that
serves Wyoming and Grand Rapids follows part of the former
routing of Business M-21 along Chicago Drive, Grandville Avenue,
and Franklin Avenue. BS I-196 was designated in 1974 with the
completion of I-196 from Holland to Zeeland, replacing the
aforementioned Business M-21 as the mainline M-21 was truncated
back to the eastern part of Grand Rapids. Incidentally, prior to
1953, this exact route was the mainline M-21.

The western
endpoint of BS I-196 is at Exit 72 off of I-196, on the
Grandville - Wyoming boundary. The interchange is
partial, with access from east I-196 to east BS I-196 and
from west BS I-196 to west I-196 only. Continuing
straight ahead is Chicago Drive, which is an un-numbered
state-maintained highway to Zeeland, where the BL I-196
for Holland joins Chicago Drive.
