New Year's Eve fireworks are always a highlight of the holiday. Kids and adult alike will be watching the fireworks displays from streets and roof decks around the city. Here is all the information you need on where and when to ring in the New Year with fireworks in Philadelphia.
Date: December 31st
Time: Philadelphia offers two showings. One is at 6 p.m. and is perfect for families who won’t make it up until midnight. The second display at midnight to bring in the New Year for those of you can stay out that late. Even better, kick off the night with the early showing, go out for dinner or dancing and then catch the second set at midnight.
Length: The display lasts about 15 minutes from the first pop to the grand finale.
Location: The fireworks take place near Penn’s Landing along the Delaware River Waterfront but can be seen from any high places in the city, so friends roof decks, watch out. We’re coming over!
Where to Watch
Pull on your hat and gloves and post up at either Penn's Landing in Philadelphia or at Wiggins Waterfront Park in Camden, New Jersey. You will hear the musical soundtrack to go along with the show at both locations, or you can also tune in to KYW at 1060 AM to hear it.
Best Places to Watch with Kids
While adults can step outside any bar near the Delaware River or head out onto a friends’ roof deck for the 15-minute show, if you are looking for an activity to enjoy with kids, there are some good options for locations where you can get a great view while also partaking in other activities. Here are a few of the best.
The Blue Cross River Rink has two different ice-skating sessions. One is from 5-7 p.m. and the other from 11 p.m. -1 a.m., timed with the 6 p.m. and midnight fireworks display. The party is alcohol-free and there is a place to warm up inside with live entertainment. The cost is $30 to ice skate and $20 just to watch from inside the rink.
The Battleship New Jersey offers multiple options for watching the fireworks from the ship with the fireworks going off overhead. Enjoy food, music and a bar from this unique former battleship.
Franklin Square will host a daytime party (11 a.m.-4 p.m.) with hat decorating, free entertainment, and a countdown to the fireworks at 6 p.m. Kids love it.
The Spirit of Philadelphia cruise offers another way to see the fireworks from the Delaware River, a long with a meal, dancing and a bar. Have a midnight champagne toast on the late-night cruise.
