Privately-held AlienVault, creator of OSSIM, a standard open source SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) solution, has appointed Barmak Meftah as president and chief executive officer and Roger Thornton as chief technology officer. Meftah previously served as chief products officer at Fortify Software. Thornton incubated and founded Fortify at Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers, serving as its chief technology officer and member of the board of directors.

AlienVault, creator of OSSIM, the de-facto standard open source SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) solution, announced today the appointments of Barmak Meftah as president and chief executive officer and Roger Thornton as chief technology officer. Meftah previously served as chief products officer at Fortify Software. Thornton incubated and founded Fortify at Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers, serving as its chief technology officer and member of the board of directors.

Meftah has over 20 years experience in enterprise software, most recently as vice president of the software security products unit at HP, where he led the Fortify and SPI Dynamics business units after the acquisition of Fortify by HP in September 2010. Before Fortify, Meftah held senior management roles at Sychron, Oracle Corporation and Price-Waterhouse. Thornton has 25 years experience in Silicon Valley technology and management roles (eBay, E*TRADE, Apple/Taligent, Sun/JavaSoft, Cypress Semiconductor) including 10 years working with leading venture capital firms building and growing new ventures. Meftah and Thornton led the creation of the Software Security Assurance market category and the build-out, expansion and successful sale of Fortify, the market leader, to HP in 2010.

Julio Casal, AlienVault co-founder and CEO, will serve, as General Manager of the new MSSP business unit and Dominique Karg, AlienVault co-founder and CTO, will lead the OSSIM community as chief hacking officer.

AlienVault’s new leadership team will also include former HP Enterprise Security executives Jim Yares, Richard Kirk, John Richardson, Jack Marshall and Gail Boddy. Yares, formerly vice president & general manager of the Americas at HP Fortify, will serve as AlienVault’s executive vice president of global field operations. Kirk, formerly vice president & general manager of EMEA at HP Fortify, will serve as senior vice president of international sales. John Richardson, formerly vice president of finance at HP Fortify, will serve as vice president finance and administration. Marshall, formerly vice president of customer success at HP Fortify, will serve as vice president of customer success. Gail Boddy, former vice president of human resources at HP ArcSight, will serve as vice president of human resources of AlienVault.
