Proportion of Americans aged 18 or older — or 45.9 million adults — who experienced mental illness in 2010, about the same as in 2009, according to an annual government survey. The rate of mental illness was higher in 18-to-25-year-olds (29.9%) than in those aged 50 or older (14.3%), and in women than in men (23% vs. 16.8%).
