Rescue squads from across Asia and the world are arriving in Christchurch to help with the emergency response.

They include specialist teams from Australia, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Britain and the United States.

Last night, a 70-strong team from Japan left for Christchurch, where 23 Japanese citizens are still missing.

South Korean President Lee Myung-Bak has also sent emergency rescue workers, with two South Korean students listed as missing.

The rescue teams combing the rubble say they're remaining positive - despite no survivors being found overnight.
