American Association of Individual Investors

Think AARP for Investors. This site of the 25-year old not-for-profit investor organization aims to educate its 150,000 members on sound investment, savings and asset allocation principles. It also aims to get you to fork over either $29 or $53 for standard or advanced membership. But it's worth it. The basic plans gets you access to tons of investor resources from stock screening tools to S&P; stock and Morningstar fund reports to its informative AAII Journal. A recent issue had educational features on Dividend Reinvestment Plans (DRIPS), a primer on convertibles and an article on estate planning basics. Its Investing Pathways section zeros in on teaching you how to become a smarter 401(k) investor with courses that teach you about stock valuation and asset allocation, as well as how to find critical filings on your mutual fund. The Advanced plan adds a computerized investing package, which includes a bi-monthly newsletter, advice and Web resources.

BEST: AAII screens that teach best practices via mimicry--Buffett, Zweig, O'Neil, Lynch, Templeton, you name it.

WORST: If you are seeking free advice, you won't find much here.
