Biography: His father coached him on his youth league team.  Is a fan of Jesse Barfield. Has excellent speed and a strong, if somewhat erratic accuracywise, arm, but has also had problems bunting and was largely confined to being a defensive replacement and pinch runner until 2009, when he started swtich hitting again after having given it up and had a breakout year. Unfortunately, that was sabotaged by a collision with leftfielder Kazuhiro Wada in September, causing a fracture. Is married. Reference: Wikipedia Japan

Biography: Had trouble hitting breaking pitches in the minors and contemplated suicide as a result. Batted cleanup in 454 games AB 1307 H 374 HR 47 RBI 193 AVG .286. Homered off of Masaichi Kaneda to break his shutout string at 64.1 innings (5/27/1958). Also had two sayonara homers off of Kaneda during his career. Noticed that rookie Shigeo Nagashima hadn't touched first base on a homer into the leftfield seats at Korakuen Stadium and successfully made the appeal for the out (9/29/1958). Slugged a homer four games in a row (1960). Slugged the first come from behind walkoff homer in team history (7/16/1961). Set a team record with eight RBIs in a game (4/15/1962). Selected to three all star teams (19577-1958, 1962). After retirement, became a coach. Also scouted and managed in the minors. Worked at Carp's Dominican Academy (1989-1995). Now works at Hiroshima Kokusai University.
