UP Diliman (UPD), UP Los Baños (UPLB), and UP Manila (UPM) are the three top schools in the Philippines, according to a study conducted by the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC) and the Commission on Higher Education.
Based on a survey of the average passing rates in all courses of all universities and colleges in the Board examinations, the three emerged as numbers one, two, and three, among the top 20 schools. The study is conducted every ten years.
Silliman is fourth; Ateneo de Davao, fifth; Ateneo de Manila, sixth; UST, seventh; Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), eighth; Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, ninth; Saint Louis University (SLU), tenth. Rounding up the top 20 are the University of San Carlos, Xavier University, MSU-Main, Urios College, PUP, DLSU, Mapua Institute of Technology (MIT), Adamson University (AdU), Central Mindanao University, and the University of Southern Philippines.
UP graduates continue to give honor to UP by doing excellently in the PRC exams this season.
Nursing
Based on the results of the Nurse Licensure Examination held in June, UPM is number one among schools of nursing, each with 30 to 99 exam-takers. All 65 exam-takers from UPM passed, although none of them figured in the top ten. The national passing rate was 48% or 31,275 of 64,909 exam-takers.
Agricultural Engineering
Graduates of UPLB dominated the top ten of the August 2007 Agricultural Engineer Licensure Examination, ensuring that UPLB retains its standing as the top school for Agricultural Engineering. UPLB’s Paolo Rommel Pagarigan Sanchez placed first; Noel Clave Gordolan, third; Marvin Carpena Petingco, fifth; Luther John Reyes Manuel, sixth; Oscar Jr. Atenciana Dioquino, seventh; Reynante Abongan Labiano, eighth; Carlo Vic Justo Arida, ninth; and Earvin Christian Anthony Canin Garcia, tenth.
Thirty-five of 40 exam-takers from UPLB passed, which is equivalent to a passing rate of 88%. UPLB shared the top spot with Xavier University, whose 12 of 13 graduates passed, equivalent to a 92% passing rate. The national passing rate was 44.4% or 205 of 462 exam-takers.
Geology
UPD bested three other schools of Geology, based on the results of the August 2007 Geologist Licensure Examination. Twenty-nine of 30 exam-takers from UPD passed, equivalent to a 97% passing rate. The 29 made up the bulk of the 37 passers out of the 50 exam-takers. The national passing rate was 74%.
Eleven UPD graduates made it to the top ten. Jane Kristine Aguila Teves placed first; Eiver Gelan Oliveria Manzano, second; Ann Carla Renomeron Alcober, third; Rodrigo Jr. Frayna Embile, fourth; Richard Jason Manrique Antonio, fifth; Lizzette Antonil Año, sixth; Karla Marlyn Quero Escober, seventh; Lourdes Christian Reyes Alejan, eighth; Godfrey Ecube Atienza, ninth; and Rovi Ann Apolonio Velasquez and Aujefel Amor Perilla Ylagan, tenth.
Metallurgical Engineering
Nearly all of the top ten of the August 2007 Metallurgical Engineer Licensure Exam were UPD graduates. Chester James Razote de Leon placed first; Dande Louie Alejan Peña, second; Constante Jr. Valera Umipig, third; Erwin Geul de Guzman, fourth; Ana Rica Bangalao Palconit, fifth; Marco Paolo Gerardo Viloria, sixth; Micah Jane Operario Cortes, seventh; Maria Theresa Natividad Loria, ninth; and Alaine Milfred Manipon Pascua, tenth.
UPD was the number one school, based on the exam results, topping MIT and MSU-IIT. Ten of 13 exam-takers from UPD passed, equivalent to a 77% passing rate. The national passing rate was 56.5% or 13 of 23 exam-takers. The three of the six exam-takers from MIT comprised the rest of the passers.
Mining Engineering
UPD dominated the August 2007 Mining Engineer Licensure Exam, with UPD graduates comprising the top ten and most of the successful examinees. All nine exam-takers from UPD passed, eight of whom were among the top ten. Marvin Mamaradlo Ubaldo placed first; Aaron Rey Cuenca Altez, second; Glen Raras Reotutar, third; Danessa Macainan Sandiko, fourth; Mariflor Almado Lopez, sixth; Dianne Tampol Rodrigo, seventh; William Jorge Cepe Lachica, eighth; and Paulo Dino Palencia Fulong, tenth. The national passing rate was 64.5% or 20 of 31 exam-takers. The rest of the exam-takers came from AdU, Cebu Institute of Technology, MIT, and SLU.
Medicine
UPM reaffirms its position as the top school of medicine, based on the results of the August 2007 Physician Licensure Exam. A total of 141 of 142 exam-takers passed for a 99% passing rate. Following UP was University of Santo Tomas and Far Eastern University, which had 91% and 82% passing rates, respectively. The national passing rate was 65.4% of 2,656 exam-takers.
Five UPM graduates made it to the top ten, which makes UPM the university with the most graduates in the top ten. Diana Rivadelo Tamondong-Lachica placed third; Aries Caesar Patdu Gavino, fifth; Ronald Artuz Luna, sixth; Lowe Lebosada Chiong, eighth; and Carmela Gan Gonzales, tenth.
