"G. C. Edmondson"

When asked about his education, Garry would reply, "Damn little. Percussion U." He was one of the SF writers who served throughout WWII but broke the mold by preferring hard labor working with his hands, becoming a blacksmith, weapons maker, and mechanic. He spoke six languages and wrote in several genres. His science fiction included the novels, The Ship That Sailed The Time Stream and T.H.E.M.

Edmondson had wide and varied interests, including medicine, but seldom left mechanical things for very long, writing Practical Welding (1976), Diesel Mechanics: An Introduction (l982), and The Basic Book of Home Maintenance and Repair (w T. J. Roybal)(1979). Garry also created a dictionary, Le Livre noir d'haute cuisine in 1977.

"I once built a refuge from my iron heeled little monsters. After much experimentation I can state categorically that there ain't no such thing as a sound-proof room. Next, it was a trailor in the back yard. This worked fine save that the stove, sink, etc were more conducive toward coffee than cliches. At present I'm in a separate building out back. The studio has a door with one key, cobwebs, a file cabinet, desk, a navy hammock, and a tape recorder. It has many windows and each window has many coats of paint. A tin stove keeps temperature in the 90's. Like crickets, I become inactive with cold."
