Tap Water Campaign
Our water is mountain fresh.

Past generations had the will and wisdom to protect our precious water supply from development and public access, which means that it is naturally clean and clear, and needs little treatment.

Our Water originates from rainwater and snow melt from the pristine mountains of the North Shore and Coquitlam area and is protected every step of the way. Water is stored in the Capilano, Seymour and Coquitlam reservoirs, part of five hundred and eight-five square kilometers of mountain watersheds closed to the public.

It’s treated to world class standards

Our fresh, naturally filtered water undergoes secondary filtration and purification at Metro Vancouver’s state of the art water filtration plant, or the Coquitlam treatment plant.  Metro Vancouver tests our water over 136,000 times every year.  No need to boil, filter, or treat in any way, Our Water is as good as it gets.

It’s always on tap

Drinking Our Water saves money, reduces greenhouse gases, and prevents plastic bottles from ending up in our landfills and oceans. Join the Metro Vancouver Tap Water Team in the effort to reduce the use of bottled water in the region and highlight the pristine source and quality of Our Water.

Protecting Your Water
We use a multi-barrier approach to ensure your tap water is safe to drink:
  • closed, protected watersheds
  • effective disinfection – chlorine at the Capilano and Seymour reservoirs, ozone at the Coquitlam reservoir
  • extensive water testing (over 25,000 times per year)
  • watermain flushing and clearing

Now that the new Seymour/Capilano water filtration plant is completed in 2009, we’ll no longer experience turbidity (murky tap water) from the reservoir.

Fast Facts

  • Metro ’s tap water is arguably some of the best drinking water in the world, and it costs you only about $0.8 per 1,000 litres, or $0.0008 per litre.  A single-use one litre bottle of water can cost you as much as $1.75 a litre.
