Town 1 - 1 Morecambe

Russell Slade changed almost the entire team, bringing in his namesake Steve Slade as well as many of the fringe players.

Martin Gritton scraped the top of the bar after 3 minutes. He turned on the edge of the box, saw himself in space and fired in a shot which curled just over.

Slade then got into the box, and won Town the first corner of the game after 6 minutes. Taken by Francis the keeper touched the ball over for a second corner.

Gritton won another corner on 9 minutes, with the keeper cleaning up this time.

Gary Cohen crossed well with his left foot but Martin Gritton couldn't quite finish off the move.

Francis then spotted the run by Martin Gritton who headed the ball down and passed his defender and from a narrow angle put his shot just wide of the far post.

Barwick went past one man but ran into a cul-de-sac.

Gritton was then pushed as he went for the ball, and this presented Town with a free-kick but it was wasted by the Mariners.

Steve Slade went off after 30 minutes, with a cut eye, returning 4 minutes later after being patched up.

Mildenhall casually came out of his box and smashed the ball forward almost finding Gritton.

Ramsden Barwick, Crane, Gritton and Cohen combined well, with Hegarty's cross being hit by Slade with his shot being deflected for a corner. Toner shot and Cohen tried to head the ball home, with the keeper brilliantly saving on the line.

Slade had a good opportunity one minute before half time, but he lashed the ball over.

Goal:! 46:59 Morecambe knocked the ball round the team, and with just a second of the two added minutes left, Morecambe got the lead through Paul Lloyd! It was only the second time in 22 games that Town have conceded a goal in the first half.

Half-time: Town 0 - 1 Morecambe

Morecambe gained their first corner almost immediately after the restart, and Town dealt comfortably with it.

After 5 minutes of the second half, Gritton burst through, and played to Cohen whose shot was saved by Robinson.

On 55 minutes Steve Slade was replaced by Paul Ashton.

Immediately Mildenhall had to be at his best to keep out a shot from Dodgson.

After 58 minutes O'Connor was replaced by Danny Carlton for Morecambe.

Morecambe's keeper Robinson went down and stayed down for several minutes after Cohen had challenged him for the ball.

Goal!: 66:43 Paul Ashton suddenly brought the game level when a cross cum shot flew over the keeper's head and into the far corner.

Shaun Gray replaced Michael Howard for Morecambe.

Next man to try his luck was Toner when the ball came to him outside the box, and he blasted the ball just over the bar.

Nick Hegarty was replaced by Miles Chamberlain after 81 minutes.

Town broke with 3 on 3, Cohen got in the box, and brought in Gritton, but the ball got stuck under his feet and Robinson collected.

With four minutes of normal time, Francis was replaced by Jermaine Palmer.

Gritton found Ashton in the box, and he gained a corner for Town.

5 minutes of added time was signalled.

Full-time: Town 1 - 1 Morecambe

After 90 seconds of the first period of extra time, Cohen raced for the ball, and caught himself and the keeper on the shin, both requiring treatment. Cohen struggled after the challenge.

Gritton then had a rasping shot, and a couple of minutes later Jermaine Palmer tested the keeper.

Gritton went on a run, and found Palmer who had a superb effort on the turn, and the keeper brought off a great save at the expense of a corner.

End of Third Period: Town 1 - 1 Morecambe

Barwick tried a shot within seconds of the fourth period starting and with every player on the pitch noticeably tiring.

Gritton won Town a free-kick 28 yards out, taken by Terry Barwick, but it was a poor one, both high and wide, but not very handsome!

Gritton started off a nice move and got on the end of the ball after some nice possession by Town, winning another corner for the Mariners ... but the keeper collected.

Carlton was booked after Palmer showed some nice skill only to be barged in the back. Ramsden took the kick near the halfway line, and the ball went through to the keeper.
