Jordan Lake Sudbury School

Lena and I feel that our current educational system is failing our children.  We started Jordan Lake Sudbury School for those children who need the freedom to grow and learn in a respectful environment.  We are totally committed to providing an opportunity for the children in our community to have a choice in their education.   We have taken a year off to build our founders group and would love to have other like minded people join the school.  We have the land to build on and now we need the financial backing to help us get the building.  If you are interested in becoming a founder or would like more information about the school please contact us at

Jordan Lake Sudbury School is a democratic school for students from kindergarten through high school. The school is based on a philosophy of education pioneered by the Sudbury Valley School in Framingham, MA in 1968.

Our fundamental belief is that all children are curious by nature and the most valuable and profound learning takes place when initiated and pursued by the students in a way that makes the most sense to them. Students of all ages are free to decide for themselves how to spend their days. All learning styles and all types of pursuits are valued here.

The school is structured as a participatory democracy where the students direct their lives, take responsibility for their choices, set priorities, allocate resources and work within a vibrant community. We believe that success in life is determined by a person's character more than a specific body of knowledge. Trust and respect are the keys to a student's success.   With emphasis on total intellectual freedom, interaction between students of all ages, and responsibility for themselves and the operation of the school, JLSS provides students with the best possible preparation for the ever-changing economy of the 21st century.
