Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 17th, 2012 (SKNIS):  As the arrival of the visit of Their Royal Highnesses, The Earl and Countess of Wessex on March 3 approaches, anticipation is also in high gear for other activities being rolled out in commemoration of the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

A special feature is the re-enactment of historical events in St. Kitts and Nevis.

Manager of Special Projects and Corporate Sponsorship Mr. Randolph Hamilton told SKNIS the re-enactments will be highly dramatic, intense and realistic,   and will undoubtedly capture the attention of patrons who will be taken on a roller coaster of emotions laced with historical pride. Increased historical awareness is the expected climactic result,” He added.

Experienced re-enactors of the British Brigade of Massachusetts USA, will be used to ensure that the activity be realistic and culturally correct as well as to utilize the resources of a group of individuals who are experts in this regard.

Mr. Hamilton revealed however that some aspects of the re-enactment would require the participation of locals in the actual staging of the event. Members of the St.Kitts–Nevis Defense Force are being trained to participate. One particular re-enactment will feature the role and triumph of slaves at that time in one of the skirmishes as they sought to maintain some level of identity.

“This is no overnight production,” Hamilton said, emphasizing the fact that the actors will be fully attired in keeping with the period they will be representing. He added that the professionals at Brimstone Hill including Operations Manager at the Fortress Mr. Leonard Stapleton are so versed in the history of these events that it was captivating and highly enlightening to hear him recount it. “This is something no one alive in the Federation should miss,” emphasized Mr.Hamilton.

“The re-enactment of the Battle of St. Kitts between the British and French in 1782 is the most rewarding experience available for eight dollars.” He emphasized that his committee is targeting schools and the general public for attendance at these events. Along with the twice-daily performances on March 29-30th, there will also be additional activities related to that period.

Other planned re-enactments are the marriage of Lord Nelson and Fannie Nisbett in Nevis as well as another, soon to be announced re-enactment at Government House in St. Kitts.

The British Brigade which can be researched at, provides lifetime aid and support for British and Allied Forces and their families, both serving and veterans. They raise funds to help families, children, the homeless, the elderly, the unemployed and those with physical and mental disabilities.

Mr. Hamilton has been in communication with Keith Taylor, Chairman of the British Soldiers Fund, Inc.; Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Ken Segel and Director of Development, Christopher Leigh Manwell.
