Bowser's Castle

After the crash landing, you'll have to traverse the dangerous castle. Save your game and walk into the next room. Collect the Mushrooms and Green Shells and then hop onto the Goomba's head to start a fight. Goomba's are straightforward enemies. Hop as soon as you are clear which Bro they are attacking and start charging to get a counterattack in. Don't wait until they are already charging or you'll end up missing.

When you can, turn down and fight the Goomba there. Once he is down, use Mario to collect the 1-Up Mushroom. Walk back and around to collect the Green Shells. Fight the next set of Goombas the same way you did the first.

In the next room, you'll face your first Boo. These ghosts will attack you by appearing from behind you and shooting forward. When they appear, jump to get a counterattack. Clear out the bottom floor and collect the Mushrooms and 20 Coins before going up the stairs. In the upper right side of this room, you may notice an X on the ground. These are the locations of hidden beans. Take note of these as you move through the game. Once you learn the Baby Drill move, you'll want to come back here to collect the bean. All of the locations are given in our Secrets and Beans page.

For now, go back to the stairs and carefully walk along the beam to get to the next room. Jump down onto the red bridge and a small movie will play. Looks like you found the Baby Bros! Convince them to jump down and take them with you. Stufwell tells you all you need to know about carrying and parting from the babies, so listen up.

Leap up the stairs and get both groups onto the blue square to activate the 4-Minion Switch. In the next room, you'll find a wall that is too high to jump up. Walk up to it and press the X Button. Baby Mario and Baby Luigi will leap off of your shoulders and land on the platform above. Press the warp tunnel block to give the adults access and then join back up with them. Once again, get all four Bros on the blue square to gain entry into the next area.

Collect all of the goods and Coins from the blocks on top of the platforms. Before getting on to the 4-Minion Switch, Press the X Button to go off exploring as babies. There is a small hole near where you came in that they can eek through. Go inside and pick up the 1-Up Mushroom and an 80 Coin box. Once you have everything, go through to the next room.

Once again, use the babies to leap up to the high ledge and hit the warp tunnel block to join back up with the adults. Leap up off of their shoulders again to the next ledge. Hit the exclamation block to lower a step. Save your game in the book and then use all 4 Bros to leap onto the 4-Minion Switch and go into the next room.

A battle starts as soon as you enter the next room. Since this is your first full team battle, Stuffwell will come out to teach you about fighting with babies on your shoulders. This time, instead of pressing the A Button as you land on the enemy with Mario, press the X Button to attack with Baby Mario. Then, as Mario comes down, press the A Button for a second attack. The same attack style works with Luigi, only he uses the Y and B Buttons. Stuffwell will also lead you through a description of how to use a Green Shell in a big team battle. They work exactly the same, except now you can get a bonus attack in by pressing the button of whichever baby is riding on the shell. Fight through the Goombas using the shells, but don't try one on the flying Boo. Use your regular jump attack on him.

Walk forward and collect the Green Shells. Leap up onto the next platform to fight a Boo and Boom Guy. The Boom Guy fires bullets at you that can do some big damage at this point in the game. Don't jump to avoid them until you are sure they are moving at you. They sometimes have a small delay and you will easily find yourself jumping the gun if you don't watch out. You can tell if the delay is coming by watching his hands. Two hands raised means the bullet will come right away. One hand up means there will be a delay. After you attack a Boom Guy enough, his gun will fall off. This is your chance to attack him while he can't fight back. Lay into him before he can call for a new gun.

Fight your way to the end of this bridge room and then hop in the Warp Tunnel in the next room. Record your progress in the Save Album on the other side and keep going. Grab the Green Shells and then read the sign by the missing bridge. It suggests using the babies to reach a higher place.

Leap up above the sign you just read with Baby Mario and Luigi. Knock the exclamation block there to rebuild the bridge. Join back together and press the 4-Minion Switch. Repeat the same jumping off of the shoulders maneuver in the next room when you come to a broken bridge. This room is a little more complex. Hit the exclamation point to build the bridge, but then keep moving through the room. Collect the 1-Up Mushroom and Coins on the ground. Carefully fight the Goombas. Remember, you're not as strong as the adults! When you come to another missing bridge, look for a doorway on a ledge above you. Send the babies up but don't go through the door (it just leads back into the hall they were in before). Use the babies to hit the double Red/Blue blocks and rebuild the bridge. Join up to make a full team and go into the next room.

Walk straight up to find a 20 Coin box. Then, walk around to the left side and send the babies up to the upper ledge. The babies find themselves in a dark room. Switch back to the adults and use Mario to press the giant red box. This will bring a sun block up to the babies. Hit it to illuminate the path. Be careful not to fall off of the small path in front of you or you'll be forced to start the room over from the beginning. The light will expire after a few moments. Hit the big block with the right adult bro (if the wrong one hits it, a fireball will be sent towards the babies and they'll have to restart the room). Make your way around the path and jump down on the inside of the fence. Jump up and hit the large chest to find your first piece of the Cobalt Star.

The gate opens up after you have the shard, so go link back up with the adults and then take the Warp Tunnel in the room above this one. Walk down the path until you get to Baby Bowser's bedroom.

Inside the bedroom, you meet up with Baby Peach and Toadsworth. Time to go back to the future.

Peach's Castle - Present

Walk to the Princess's throne room. Professor E. Gadd confirms that you have found a Cobalt Star Shard. It seems they are necessary to defeating the evil Shroob marauders. The Cobalt Star Shard you just collected is kind enough to open another Time Hole. It is just above Toadsworth's bedroom and is your next target. Toadsworth also gives you the Salvage Badge and teaches you how to put them on. Before you go, be sure to stop by the now open Shroom Shop on the upper right side of this floor and make some purchases. We suggest buying new pants for all 4 of the Bros to ensure that they are sturdy enough to withstand the tougher enemies ahead. Also, be sure to explore the castle. There are many item blocks that you can raid throughout the area, with more available each time you learn new maneuvers. By exploring the castle, you'll be able to find some basic Mushrooms as well as some Coins.
