Internships

I say, "Yes" to Him.

The chief gave us land!” one ministry intern excitedly reported. “We are going to have a place to meet.” In order to graduate, Bible College students must do a ministry internship. This is no ordinary “observe the pastor, sit in board meetings, teach a Sunday school class, preach one sermon, and help with communion” internship. Bible College students are required to go to a new location and organize something new: a church plant, a branch Sunday school, a Bible study in a new village.

With over 800 languages and societies in Papua New Guinea, students go as a missionary to an area that speaks a different language and has a different culture. Students use the JESUS Film, Bible Story cloths, the GOL soccer ball, stick figure charts, and other ministry aids to reach the hearts of the people. The reports are coming in: stories of conversions, stories of young people called to ministry, stories of land being given for a church, stories of something new started. The students have three weeks left in their practicum experiences, will you continue to pray for their safety and success as interns?

World Evangelism Fund (WEF)

PNG Tattoos

In November, Nazarenes from all over the world are being challenged to give the single largest offering for World Evangelism in the history of our church, a WEF PLUS offering.

Prevailing Prayer—this will not happen by human strength—“Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the LORD Almighty,” Zech. 4:6.
Love Offering—this is above any obligation or commitment. It must come from a heart of love and desire to fulfill the mission of God.
Unanimous Participation—we need every Nazarene in every church around the world to participate.
Strategic Sacrifice—every adult giving an extra $10 and every child giving 40 coins.

Thank you to all those who have given to missions offerings, deputation offerings, and for special projects. Will you join with me in November to celebrate God’s work in Papua New Guinea and around the world by giving a special WEF Plus offering? Together we will take Christ to the world.

Home Economics Building Dedicated

Rugs from Rags

Students in the lay ministry program at the Bible College have something special to talk about. They have a new home economics building. No longer will they have to pack up their supplies and store them between classes. The new building will make it possible to form a Home Economics Club for outreach to those in the nearby community.

Full time students enrolled in the lay ministry pro-gram focus on Bible Study, church growth, and leading ministries in the church, such as youth, missions, and children organizations. Lay Ministry students learn how to witness, teach a Sunday school class and lead a Bible study. They also do an internship which includes starting a branch Sunday school or church plant before graduation.

Two families sent money to purchase two new sewing machines and cloth for the new home economics department. Now each student will have access to a sewing machine during class time. Will you pray that these men and women in the lay program will learn how to be strong workers in the church and also learn a craft that will help bring in an income for their families? Will you pray for Rev. Lero Kui as she directs the home economics department.

Faculty Development

“I understand now why following policies is so important,” stated one administrator after attending a faculty development seminar with Dr. Sam Dunn. Dunn has served as academic dean, professor of Business and Mathematics, and other roles at the university level and is now adjunct professor at Northwest Nazarene University. He helped Bible College faculty and administrators to better understand their job descriptions and roles in the academic structure of the Bible College. Will you pray for the faculty as they accept greater responsibilities in leadership in the Bible College and in Papua New Guinea.
