Abstract; The epidemiology and symptoms of trigeminal neuralgia, its developmental mechanism, treatment techniques, and the effectiveness of opioids against the disease are described. Oral administration, nerve block, and neurovascular decompression are presented as conventional techniques. The clinical findings on the effectiveness of opioid against neuropathic pain are presented, along with reports on its efficacy against pain-inflicting diabetic neuropathy and postherpetic neuralgia. The efficacy of opioid against a rat model of trigeminal neuralgia is also given. As counterargument, differences in the nature of trigeminal neuralgia for humans and rats are described in detail.
