Hawaii Five-O will be without its top star for a brief time.

Alex O'Loughlin, who plays central character Steve McGarrett, will miss at least one episode of the CBS drama while taking a leave to seek prescription drug treatment.

"Alex is taking a short break from Hawaii Five-O to receive supervised treatment for prescription pain medication due to a recent shoulder injury," his representative said.

CBS Television Studios, which produces the show, issued a statement: "We respect and support Alex's decision. Everyone at CBS Television Studios and Hawaii Five-O wishes him well and we look forward to his return."

Five-O, which is filming its 20th episode of the season, will complete its season order despite O'Loughlin's absence. Production is ahead of schedule.

  • Please take care of yourself and it is okay to admit to an addiction. It is the first step. Alex, you will be missed! My prayers for you. I miss you on Three Rivers as you did a great job in that show, which NEVER received the full support by CBS and their executives.
