The event was designed to help Penn State students connect with a variety internship and employment in wellness, service and recreation industries.

University Park, Pa. -- Penn State alumnus Guion S. Bluford Jr. will be the grand marshal for the 2006 Penn State Homecoming Celebration. Bluford will appear in the annual homecoming parade Friday evening, Oct. 20, that winds through the University Park campus and the State College downtown. The theme of this year's celebration is "Pride in Our Legacy."

Bluford, a graduate of the class of 1964, is recognized as the first African-American in space in addition to numerous other honors. He is a veteran of four space flights and has spent more than 688 hours in space in his 14 years of working with NASA. Bluford has a bachelor of science from Penn State, a master's degree and doctorate from the Air Force Institute of Technology, and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Houston, Clear Lake.

Penn State takes on Illinois in the homecoming match Saturday, Oct. 21, at Beaver Stadium. For more information on Penn State Homecoming 2006, visit http://homecoming.psu.edu online.
