A music group has landed a former boyband member as its new patron.

Music and Arts for Creative Youth (MACY) is a not-for-profit community group which encourages, discovers and develops the cultural talent of young people and adults with a learning disability in and around Chorley.

The group has more than 500 young people as members and has secured former a1 singer Paul Marazzi as its new patron.

MACY provides workshop activities, showcase events, volunteering opportunities and work experience for young people in the arts.

It also runs White Bear Recording and Rehearsal Studio in Adlington, which provides safe and affordable opportunities for young bands and musicians to hone their music making skills and record to industry standards.

Chairman Neil Aspinall said: “Through my work as a professional musician I approached Paul Marazzi who is best known for being a singer with the band a1 and who had a string of top 10 and number one hits in the UK.

“He toured with the band extensively around the world, including arena tours of Asia.

“Paul has a wealth of talent and experience in the industry and because of his passion for the arts in general he didn’t need much convincing to join the group as its patron.”

Paul lives in the North East and will be attending committee meetings and would like to be involved in workshops whenever he can.

Neil said: “He is even talking to the likes of Duncan from Blue, Chesney Hawkes, and the lads from Boyzone to see if he can arrange a fundraising event to raise the profile of MACY in Chorley during 2012.

“In the meantime Paul is recording a new album project taking him back to his soul roots and will be performing a special showcase gig arranged by MACY in Chorley in the New Year which he hopes to tie in with some song writing workshops and a song writing competition to kick start his role as patron.”

Paul said: “I was delighted to be asked to become Patron of MACY and didn’t hesitate to accept as it’s a fantastic opportunity for me to become involved in such a fantastic organisation.

“Neil explained to me what the group does for young people in the area I was so impressed I had to make a few calls including the lads in Blue to get the ball rolling on what I hope will be a fundraising event in 2012.”
