USPS may eliminate 35,000 jobs

The US Postal Service announced last week that it will push ahead with plans to close or consolidate over two hundred mail processing centers and eliminate up to 35,000 jobs as part of its strategy to cut costs.

CBS News reported that the cash-strapped agency had completed a review of closings to mail processing centers it had proposed last fall.

AS MORE and more states are taking varied steps to fight illegal immigration, the Board of Commissioners of Frederick County, Maryland voted on February 21 to adopt an ordinance, making English the county’s official language, the Frederick News-Post reported.

In the past decade, there has been massive growth in Frederick County, driven by Asians and Hispanics.

To create more jobs in Nevada, public TV station expands online education

LAS VEGAS—Taking its cue from Gov. Brian Sandoval’s plan to add 50,000 jobs in Nevada, a local public television station has launched an initiative that is expected to increase workforce training and education for state residents.

The program offers a convenient way for individuals to get the necessary skills that will enable them to keep up with the governor’s economic diversification plan, the Vegas Public Broadcasting System (Vegas PBS) noted.

Sen. Lieu introduces bill to help protect consumers from wrongful medical billing 

SACRAMENTO—In response to a radio investigation showing that medical patients are being wrongly billed without their consent, Sen. Ted W. Lieu of Torrance recently introduced legislation to require disclosure of treatment costs.

“Too often some of California’s patients find themselves facing incredible hardships because of unexpected – and extremely high – medical expenses in non-emergency settings,” Lieu said about the need for Senate Bill 1373. “There is need for a system where sticker shock at the bill doesn’t send the patient into cardiac arrest.”

IN A recent meeting with the LA Times’ editorial writers and reporters, Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck said California should issue driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants.

In an article in the Times, Beck was quoted as saying his “personal belief is that they should be able to” have licenses.
