The Carlton Football Club has secured the services of Jeremy Laidler from Geelong after agreeing to a trade with the Cats.

Laidler, who joined Geelong via the 2008 Rookie Draft and was elevated to the Geelong primary list in the 2009 National Draft, was exchanged for Carlton’s third round selection, number 53 in the 2010 National Draft. The two clubs also exchanged second round selections as part of the trade. (Carlton’s selection 36 to Geelong and the Cats selection 41 to Carlton).

“We are delighted to welcome Jeremy to the Carlton Football Club, we believe this move to Carlton will provide him with the opportunity to establish himself as an AFL player and he will be important for us going forward,” said General Manager Football Operations, Steven Icke.

A defender, Laidler, who turned 21 in August, has played two games with Geelong and is looking forward to more opportunities at Carlton. He won the Calder Cannons Best & Fairest Award in their TAC Premiership season of 2007 and represented Vic Metro in the Under 18 National Championships the same year.

Laidler played his junior football in the Essendon District Football League and attended Essendon-Keilor College where he was involved in their successful VET Football program.
