Bysiewicz: Malloy elected governor, no recount
Former Stamford mayor beats Foley by more than 3,100 votes

HARTFORD (AP) — Former Stamford Mayor Dan Malloy was elected Connecticut's first Democratic governor in two decades, finally learning Wednesday that he had defeated millionaire Republican businessman Tom Foley after months of negative advertising.

Malloy, 55, touted his experience as mayor, saying he created at least 5,000 new jobs, brought in major corporations and reduced crime. He becomes the state's 88th governor and the first Democrat since William O'Neill left office in 1991. He will succeed retiring Republican Gov. M. Jodi Rell.

" Good job liberal CT!!! Say good-bye to capitol punishment (I don't want to hear that it is too expensive-it could have been streamlined) Say good-bye to more private sector jobs (of course the union public sector will be protected). Say hello to higher taxes and single party power. We were the only state in the union that voted in the status quo. Once again...good job! All that voted Dem deserve what they get. "

" Let's look at the credential of the 2 men.

Dan Malloy received his Juris Doctorate from Boston College, having graduated from same Magna_Cum_Laude. He's also been mayor of Stamford since 1995 during which time the the city has earned 3 “City Livability Awards” from the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

Tom Foley has earned an MBA from Harvard. In 1985, he formed the National Textile Corp (NTC) and in the same year, NTC purchased the Bibb Company. In the 11 years that Mr. Foley was in control, he received an annual salary of approximately $ 4 million dollars per year, even when the Bibb Company was undergoing financial difficulties beginning from 1994 forward, until Mr.Foley was removed from executive control of the Bibb Company by a bankruptcy judge in 1996.

So now who would the citizens of Connecticut want in running the day to day affairs of this proud state, a proven loser in Mr. Foley or a nationally acknowledged and proven public administrator in Mr. Malloy? "

" Malloy and Blumenthal were not trying to buy the election. One of the best advocates for the poor in this state is a millionaire herself.

Being wealthy in and of itself does not make one a poor choice. Its choosing to use resources to try to manipulate public opinion that is truly dangerous.

Leigh, I have to say also that your nasty attitude towards those with less resources than you speaks exactly to the concerns I have about Foley and McMahon.

If you really believe Foley and McMahon care about the likes of most CT citizens, you'll be in for some nasty surprises if Foley wins this election.

There are a lot of people who naively believe they are not the recipients of government funded or subsidized services, and Foley intends to cut them across the board indiscriminately. And then, talking out of the other side of his mouth, claims to be able to access huge amounts of federal monies (gee, our tax dollars!).

I don't think any CT resident is more equal than others. I'm no better than the homeless person trying to survive on the street, or the wealthy multi-millionaire trying to expand their wealth, nor other 70k earners like myself.

Some candidates and residents seem to think some voters are more equal than others. Just ask Foley what he thinks about Bridgeport voters! "

This is not a news flash. They withdrew their support last night. Checked the WFSB website. They haven't changed it to calling the election for Foley. It remains withdrawing the call for Malloy.

Time will tell. I need to see the numbers. The numbers I've seen so far show Foley ahead, which has concerned me all along. Foley also poo-pooed Bridgeport voters right to vote!

We'll see what happens when the counts are in... "

The Courant obtained totals from the New Haven registrar of voters that shows Malloy had 22,298 votes, compared with Foley's 3,685."

The latest data.

Crack me up at the hold your horses libs attitude. At 9:28 my post included: "If you really believe Foley and McMahon care about the likes of most CT citizens, you'll be in for some nasty surprises "
