Frans Doorman is a sociologist with an MSc in Development Sociology and a PhD in agricultural sciences from the University of Wageningen, The Netherlands – internationally known as one of the foremost agricultural universities in the world. Since his graduation in 1981 he has worked in development cooperation in over ten different countries in Latin America and Africa, for such institutions as the Dutch Directorate of International Cooperation, the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization, the World Bank and the European Community. His academic and professional background have given him a broad view on development issues, and have led to the publication of several books and articles in established academic journals. He has also contributed pieces on economic development for the op-ed pages of one of the leading Dutch quality newspapers, de Volkskrant.
