Tunis's central artery is Avenue Habib Bourguiba, named after Tunisia's first president. Every city in Tunisia has an Avenue Bourguiba; in the capital, the broad avenue, said to be akin to the Champs-Élysées, is lined with trees, restaurants, and shops and traverses the city from east to west.
